Gospel Reading for Sunday, December 9th, 2018

Second Sunday of Advent

Deliverance is Coming

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • What are some ways we’ll be preparing for Christmas this Advent?
  • How can we “Prepare the Way of the Lord”?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Parents,

On Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, we will celebrate our school at our annual fundraiser, “Small Plates, Big Hearts”. Our Fundraiser committee is hard at work planning for this exciting event. This annual event supports our school in a variety of ways, most notably for tuition assistance and support for technology funding. This year, we are hosting the event here in the Fr. Grom Activity Center (our gym), and featuring an array of small plate treats, as well as raffle baskets and silent auction items.

Today’s Thursday envelope contains a paper ticket order form. Tickets are extremely reasonably priced at only $25 per person. Each year, we hope for 100 percent attendance on the part of our families. Please consider joining us. I also know that events of this sort are so much more fun if you bring a group! I encourage you to invite friends and relatives to join us in an evening of support and celebration of our school.

I will be mentioning this event each week from now through January, sharing updates as they become available. We will collect ticket orders in the school office beginning immediately. If you need an additional form, just email us. We will happily send one home with your child.

I look forward to celebrating with all of you on February 2nd!

Growing in God’s Love,

Mary Laidlaw Otto
Principal

Thank you!

Our Home and School Association would like to thank our amazing parents for your support in our fall and winter fundraisers.   Our recent Christmas Fundraisers:  See’s Candies, Colectivo Coffee, and Rubi Red Cranberries yielded nearly $1500 in profit for our school. Our Home and School provides support for our school program in many different ways. VIP Day activities, in-school programming, and updates to technology are just a few of the things they have already supported this year.   Our largest project this year is funding the purchase of new Literature and Language Arts textbooks for our students in grades K4 through 4. These materials will provide the bedrock for our early literacy program and will come to us at a cost of more than $10,000.  This purchase would not be possible without the support of our amazing families! Thank you so much!!

During the month of January, our Home and School Association will support a number of events for our students. We can’t wait to celebrate Catholic Schools Week with our students! Please mark your calendars now for our annual Catholic Schools week Open House, to be held on Saturday, January 26th, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to check out our classrooms, join us for 4:30 mass, and of course, stay on for our Home and School spaghetti dinner. This was an extremely popular event last year, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our families again!

Please remember – our satisfied families are our very best advertising. We ask you to invite friends to come and tour our school on January 26th. They are more than welcome to take a tour, and then join us for mass and spaghetti. We’d love to share our amazing programming with them!
