Evacuation Drill
As now required by the Department of Justice, all schools must have 2 annual Evacuation Drills in addition to fire, tornado, and intruder in the building drills. An evacuation of all students from school would occur whenever there is an immediate danger to children most commonly INSIDE the building (such as a gas leak) when it is not safe to stay on school grounds.
For Good Shepherd Lutheran School, our evacuation site is First Baptist Church across Main St. (just past Ixonia Bank). When I first asked the pastors there is they would be willing to be our safe spot they quickly replied with, "Of course! We're in the business of saving lives!" :) Should there ever be an emergency that requires us to vacate the building and grounds, that is where students will be taken. At that point we will follow the direction of local law enforcement agencies and various authorities to provide a safe place for reunification between students and parents.
Our first drill of the year is coming up on
Wednesday, March 6th
, following the Ash Wednesday church service, assuming weather cooperates. Children will be instructed ahead of time of the drill and given instructions as to what is going to happen on the 6th. We will have our 2nd drill of the year when things warm up outside (hopefully May).
Please feel free to contact me with any questions about this safety drill.
Blessings,
