Victor M. Mite is the new Assistant to the Immigration Clinic Director. In his new role with LUM, Victor assists Immigration Clinic clients, who are individuals from other countries, who are legally in the United States, to navigate the often difficult and confusing Immigration & Naturalization Service bureaucracy. He also speaks and writes in English and Spanish — and is beginning to learn French.

Victor grew up in Ancon, Panama, Republic of Panama and now lives in Lafayette. He has two married daughters and two grandchildren, who live in Lafayette & Miami. Victor graduated from the Pan American Institute and earned an associate's degree in Accounting from the University of Panama. For 38 years in Panama, Victor was an accountant and CFO for three different companies. He moved to Miami in 2002 and continued his work in finance. In 2009, Victor moved to Lafayette and began his "second career" as a certified medical interpreter and translator. He retired from the Indiana University Arnett Hospital & Clinics as a CMI interpreter and translator. In his free time, Victor enjoys listening to and recording jazz music, reading (history, religion & physics), going to the gym and hanging out with his grandchildren.

LUM is fortunate to have Victor Mite as a part of the Immigration Clinic staff.

The LUM Immigration Clinic  often assists local families beyond navigating paperwork with the Immigration & Naturalization Service. Families often need assistance with day-to-day needs and emergencies.

Recently the LUM Immigration Clinic  assisted one family in moving their belongings from storage to their new apartment. LUM staff were able to recruit members from two Purdue fraternities (Delta Pi Rho and Sigma Chi) to assist all day one Saturday (pictured). The Immigration Clinic also utilized other LUM services and partnered with a couple of local churches to gather donations and financial assistance to assist the family with new expenses and basics supplies, food and clothing.

This is just one example of how the impact of the LUM Immigration Clinic  on local families expands beyond the citizenship and naturalization process.
