Healthy Department Certification
Applications Open March 1
The Be Well at Work Healthy Department Certification program launched in Fall 2018 with the goal of creating sustainable, healthy workplace communities where faculty and staff are more engaged, energized, and empowered to lead a healthy lifestyle and prevent injury and illness at work. 

In the program's inaugural semester five departments received the certification.These departments were: Environmental Health and Safety (Gold), Haas School of Business (Gold), International House (Gold), Learning and Organizational Development (Blue) and Be Well at Work Occupational Health (Silver).  

Any department, office, academic, or other administrative unit of 10 or more (faculty, staff, and/or students) are encouraged to apply for the certification - applications open March 1. Learn more about the Healthy Department Certification and a big congratulations to our five campus departments.

Balancing Technology Challenge
February 25 - March 24
4-week program 
Technology is pervasive in our lives. It helps us in many ways, but it can also distract us from other important components of life. Join this challenge to:
  • Receive weekly newsletters and enter prize drawings
  • Find a healthy balance of technology in your life
  • Discover (or rediscover) activities that truly fulfill you
  • Learn effects of screen time
  • Connect with others in a more meaningful way
  • Reduce dependency on devices

Cell Phones, Cell Towers, and Wireless Safety

More than 240 scientists who have published over 2,000 papers on electromagnetic fields and biology are concerned that wireless radiation exposure from cell phones, cell towers, and other wireless devices increases your risk of cancer, infertility, and neurological disorders.

Learn about the latest research on wireless radiation safety and steps you can take to protect yourself and loved ones from harm.

Creativity and Your Health

Engaging in creative activities allows us to be more productive, balanced and calm in everyday life. Come explore your creativity while enjoying simple activities, and learn how engaging in creative activities can benefit your health. It's also a great way to breakaway from screen time!

This workshop will review the health benefits of creative activities, plus dig deeper into physiological effects, and introduce new activities for both groups and individuals. Any level of experience with art or other creative modality is welcome. Supplies will be provided. 
I CAN! Healthy Lifestyle Program
March 26 - April 30
Jump-start a new healthy lifestyle with this free 6-week program to help equip you with the skills you need to get started.

I CAN! is an interactive program that includes nutrition and fitness assessments, a hands-on cooking class, a grocery tour, and weekly group workouts with a certified personal trainer and registered dietitian.

Sound Meditation and Tea
Join Melissa Felsenstein of Inner Sounds Meditation during Staff Appreciation Week on March 21, 2019 from 12-1pm in the East Pauley Ballroom and experience the powerful effects of live sound during this special, free sound meditation. Learn how sound can be used as therapy to help reduce stress, release tension, balance the nervous system, and encourage healthier sleep.

R.A.D. Self Defense for Women

R.A.D. for Women is a 9-hour comprehensive, women* and femmes course that begins with risk awareness and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. 

* We welcome all UC Berkeley affiliates and community members who experience life through the lens of wo(man) in body, spirit, identity - past, present, future, and fluid.  Note: Participants must attend both sessions.   
Brutus Hamilton Staff Sprint Challenge
Looking for an exciting team building event this Spring or just an excuse to engage in some friendly competition with your campus colleagues? Join Cal Athletics in partnership with the Be Well at Work - Wellness Program for the Brutus Hamilton Staff Sprint Relay Challenge at Edwards Stadium on April 26, 2019 at 11:30am for a chance to get moving, re-energize and compete in a Sprint Medley Relay. Note: check-in starts at 11:30am and the first heat will begin promptly at 12pm.
