n Thursday, April 12, 2018, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change issued direction to Stewardship Ontario to wind up the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) program by December 31, 2020. Upon wind up, materials collected under the MHSW program will be managed according to an individual producer responsibility framework under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016.
Stewardship Ontario is committed to operating the MHSW program without disruption until the wind up date. Details about the wind up and consultation materials will be posted on the Stewardship Ontario website as they become available.
We look forward to working with the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority, stewards, municipalities, service providers and other affected stakeholders as we develop the wind up plan.
