Principal's Message

Murwood Families,

At this time of year, I stop and reflect on how fortunate I am to be in this school, with these fantastic teachers, beautiful children and supportive families. You often honor us at the holidays with small gifts and treats. This year, instead of bringing treats or gifts for our team in the office, we ask that you donate a gift card to a family in need. Once again, we will be doing our Giving Tree, which is a small tree adorned with gift cards for practical items such as Safeway or Target or perhaps a movie or coffee.  You can share a gift card you already have or a new one.  This Murwood tradition has been going on since I've been here and it always makes us so happy to make sure everyone has a joyful holiday.  Cards will be collected by Mrs. Kaye in the main office until Wednesday, December 19. As always, I am thankful to our hard working staff, dedicated PTA, devoted Site Council and everyone who comes and lends a hand to make Murwood the best place to be.

News From the Office

The cold & flu season is officially here and the big question from parents is always "When should I keep my child home?"

Please refer to the following District guidelines of when to keep a sick child home.

FEVER
100.5 degrees or higher.  Child must be fever free without benefit of fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

STOMACH ACHE
Two or more episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, or has had one in the past 24 hours and feels tired or ill.

SNEEZING OR RUNNY NOSE
Excessive sneezing or constant running nose especially with green or yellow mucus.

SORE THROAT
Tender, swollen glands, severe pain and a fever of 100.5 or higher.

COUGH
Frequent, persistent cough with phlegm/mucus or cough sounds like a bark or is accompanied by a sore throat or wheezing.

EARACHE
Constant or severe pain- this is a sign of otitis  media (middle ear infection).

RASH
If the rash blisters, develops pus or is uncomfortable, possible signal for chicken pox or impetigo.

Children should not return to school until symptoms of illness have subsided and the child is able to participate fully in classroom learning and activities.  A child should also remain home if on antibiotics for a full 24 hours after beginning medication.

If your child is going to be out due to illness, please call the office to notify us of the absence.  If you have any questions about whether or not your child should stay home, please call the office and we will advise.

Thank you!

#GivingTuesday
After two of the largest shopping days of the year, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season. We want to thank those of you who donated on GivingTuesday. Eva Santelli had this to say when she donated on GivingTuesday, "I support public education and WCEF is the best investment you can make in our community. I urge you to give as well." It's not too late to give the gift of education. Donate now.
