Travel Policy Reminder
Blanket Travel Mileage Processing

Please remember that in order to request reimbursement for mileage you incurred in your personal vehicle while conducting university business you must first have an approved travel request .

In addition, your request for reimbursement of this mileage must be sent to Jim Fowler for processing within 2 weeks of the end of the month in which you are seeking reimbursement for . Also, please look out for the next travel training session – it’s coming soon!

The Ohio Academy of Science Annual Meeting
Deadline for Just in Time Abstracts Extended to February 28
OAS is opening a second Call for Abstracts that will run until February 28.For college students, abstracts submitted during this second call MUST be reviewed by their advisor. Since these abstracts will not be peer-reviewed by OAS, the abstracts will not be in the print version of the meeting program. Instead these abstracts will be printed in a separate insert that will be distributed at the meeting. These abstracts WILL be in the online version of the program in a Just-in-Time section. The Ohio State University Plant Sciences Symposium 2019
Deadline general registration and poster submissions is February 28th
The Ohio State University Plant Sciences Symposium 2019: Enhancing Plant Sciences through Technology, Communication, and Innovation. All undergraduates, graduate students, post-docs, staff, faculty and visiting scholars are invited to participate in this symposium! General registration and poster submission will be accepted through Feb 28th, 2019. Prizes will be awarded to the top poster presenters! Separate prizes will be awarded to undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs/staff.

CFAES Annual Research Conference Poster Competition
Deadline for poster submissions is March 11 at 5:00 p.m.
The poster competition is open to any currently enrolled M.S. or Ph.D. student, or those who received their graduate degrees after Spring Semester 2018, working on an OARDC or CFAES supported project. Postdocs and Research Assistants/Associates/Scientists including Visiting Scholars that are not currently enrolled in an advanced degree program are also invited to participate. Entrants may present only posters on original research they have conducted while at The Ohio State University. Posters for the competition must be submitted online as a PDF and then printed and displayed at the research conference.  Each entrant may submit only one poster and must register separately to attend the conference.  There are no restrictions regarding number of graduate students participating per faculty member or department.

Separate competitions will be held for Masters, Doctoral students, Postdocs, and Research Assistants/Associates/Scientists. All posters will undergo a peer-review process prior to the Conference during which they will be scored. First, second, and third place winners in each competition will receive cash awards of $500, $300 and $150, respectively. Winners will be announced at the conference and must be present at the conference in order to receive the award.   All abstracts will be published in the Knowledge Bank allowing them to be listed in the authors'  curriculum vitae . FFAR Fellows
Due February 15
The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), a nonprofit established through bipartisan congressional support in the 2014 Farm Bill, awarded a $27 Million grant to launch the FFAR Fellowship Program. A graduate student leadership development program. 

The goal of the program is to combine cutting-edge food and agriculture science research with professional development training to better prepare graduate students for the workforce. They are recruiting for the 2nd Cohort to begin in August. The deadline for applications is February 15th. See additional information on their website:    https://ffarfellows.org/
Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
Due February 22
The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The Fellowship matches highly qualified graduate students with “hosts” in the legislative and executive branch of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one-year paid fellowship.

Are you an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student with a great idea that is in need of funding support? Are you working on research or a project related to sustainability? The Sustainability Institute at Ohio State is pleased to offer a student grant funding opportunity for spring semester 2019. Applications are due, with all corresponding documents, to sustainability@osu.edu  by no later than 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 18.

Nominations Open for Excellence in Safety Awards
Due February 25th
The University Laboratory Safety Committee is opening nominations for the “Excellence in Safety” awards to recognize a university faculty or staff member (Individual Award), student (Individual Student Award) and a laboratory research group (Group Award) who have made a considerable contribution to improving laboratory safety on the Ohio State campus. The nomination period opens  January 11 and closes February 25.
