ACA Lunar New Year Banquet A Huge Success
Beginning of the Lunar New Year of the Pig, best for all! On February 9th, as the cold winter snow in Michigan just stopped and the sun shined throughout, ACA Lunar New Year Banquet was given the best timing and carried out with a big success. A total of 300 people from all walks of life gathered together to celebrate the New Year, a whole house full of peace and warmth!

The Association of Chinese Americans’ Lunar New Year fundraising banquet was held in Golden Harvest Restaurant this year, and the party was hosted by Emcee, Bob Rothman. Bob Rothman introduced the Lunar New Year's origins and fun allusions in a humorous and unique hosting style. Shenlin Chen, the newly appointed president of ACA this year, gave a welcoming speech at the party, indicating the importance of the New Year in the Asian community: symbolizing reunion and the hope of renewal. She also expressed her gratitude to all the supporters and partners of ACA and hoped to deepen the cooperation relationships in the future and bring more and better services to the local community.

The cute and funny dress Hamlet wearing was a Chinese red bellyband, which attracted many guests to take group photos. Hamlet also occasionally sent a sweet milk baby sound to fascinate the audience, that won the love of all!
Beautiful young singer Esther Kaufmann from Detroit, also well-known to the Chinese community, sang the set of three, "The Moon Represents My Heart", "Small Town Story", "Gongxi Gongxi", and deeply touched and excited the guests. Along with ACA guests’ singing, clapping and dancing, the party was concluded to its fullness.

The Association of Chinese Americans, Inc. (ACA) held its Lunar New Year of the Pig Lantern Festival at the Chinese Community Center in Madison Heights on Feb. 16 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Guests proactively participated all kinds of festival games, experienced Chinese calligraphy, lantern festival related crafts and face paintings etc. They all spent a weekend full of an authentic flavor of the New Year from China. The festival not only brought to local Chinese a refreshing and tasty lunar new year but also to other nations a wonderful experience of the unique Chinese culture in a diverse Michigan.

As people browsed the festival area and observed the thrilled professional lion dance, a cultural program began with remarks from ACA President Shenlin Chen as well as special guests Brian Hartwell, Mayor of Madison Heights. Afterwards, everyone was treated to a performance of 16 acts by local groups and individuals. Highlights included New Year songs and dances by ACA Chongyang Choir, a guzheng string performance by Detroit Guzheng Group, the qipao show by Westland Senior group, individual dance by Angela Chao, Children’s classic reading by Fuqian School, tai chi sword by Tai Chi Star and Kongfu by Michael Lee, which culminated with the whole audience. A Great Detroit Lunar New Year

The Detroit Lunar New Year Open House Day, which was held at the Detroit Service Center last Tuesday. It was received a full house of congratulations!

On February 5th, prior to the open house hours, friends from the Midtown area of Detroit started coming in to the Detroit office to experience the festive season of Chinese New Year. Displays arranged by ACA, the Chinese traditional clothing, the history and face of Peking Opera, the big four traditional Chinese cuisines and the Chinese zodiac origin had attracted many guests who were the first time to get to know Chinese culture, and the others with different cultural backgrounds. Many friends with curiosity asked questions, wanting to understand and know more Chinese traditions. Lanterns, firecrackers and exquisite Chinese knots have turned the second floor of Hannan House, where the Detroit Service Center is located, into a miniature of Chinatown.
