12/2 ~ living in the midst of letting go
One of the odd things about our culture is how we tend to categorize our senior citizens as having lived their lives already. The reality is that our seniors have a lot to teach us about how to live fully at whatever age, while letting go of things that once seemed so important. Join us at our annual SAGES service where we will celebrate the gifts and wisdom of our older folks and welcome new SAGES into our midst.

do you need appliances?
If you are in need of a working washer, dryer, and/or refrigerator, Beth Woods has a set that she needs to pass on to someone. If you are interested, please contact her at  512-461-3506. If you don't have a way to transport and/or load/unload this set, Gary Harrison says that the Buildings and Grounds crew may be able to help. Call him at 719-339-1781 if you want these items and need assistance in moving them to your place.

congregational work day
A small but hardy band of workers showed up for the Congregational work day on Saturday, 12/1. The volunteers were able to make huge strides in cleaning and protecting the beautiful wood in the Great Hall. In addition to getting several small repairs and cleaning chores done, they were also able to put up a few decorations to welcome the holiday season. Later that evening, participants in the Parade of Lights were able to enjoy a warm beverage and some other refreshments while admiring the results of the day's hard work.
Please give a big thank you to Kate and Will Crow, Becky, Gary and Kate Harrison, Jim and Judy Michali, Bill and Cathy Matthews,  Rick Schwarz and Karen Slimp. Together they created a warm and welcoming interior for the Parade of Lights Warming Station and helped prepare the church for the busy holiday season coming up! Give them a hug and a thank you the next time you see them!

new ushers needed!
The usher team is in urgent need of new volunteers. Ushers provide support in several ways each Sunday.  Ushers are the welcoming smile and handshake as you walk in the door. They also play a key role is the safety and security of our services.  If you are looking for a way to support All Souls by giving some of your time, please contact Sarah Bethke (719) 354-5373.

fill those boxes
I hope your dollars and coins are filling up your Guest at Your Table box. This is an annual intergenerational program sponsored by the UUSC to raise support for and awareness about key human rights issues. This year's theme is Justice Across Borders, a subject very near and dear to this church. This program is an opportunity to celebrate grassroots partnership, support human rights, and learn about just four of these individuals - the "guests" in Guest at Your Table. The brochures and collection boxes are available for you at the RE Table so pick one up and help us continue this great tradition of hope and help!

last sunday
Our Air Element class explored life cycles. We acted out a frog metamorphosis, heard a story about a caterpillar growing up, and made coffee filter butterflies.  Many thanks to Linda Rossetti for teaching and Cathy Mathews for assisting.  Our Fire Element class examined the idea that nobody's perfect. Do you know what silly putty, chocolate chip cookies, Velcro, sticky notes, a Slinky, and a bar of Ivory soap have in common? Each one exists only because someone accidentally made it while trying to invent something else. Then the class finished by exploring Wabi-Sabi and made their own version of raku pottery creating the beauty of imperfection. Thank you to Julie Brady for teaching and to Michelle Freddolino for assisting.

12/9
Contemplate This! meets Team Game Day as we try our hand at group juggling! No worries if you can't juggle as it is for all ages and abilities. There will be team building and problem solving as we fo cus in the moment while working together toward common goals.

12/16
It's Worm Day - oh yeah! Our Air Element Class and Fire Element class will come together to learn about decomposition and how that fits into our 7th principle and the interdependent web. We will observe real worms and get the opportunity, with family approval, to take some home for further study. When you are done observing at home, worms can be returned to All Souls and placed in our large worm habitat here in RE as we continue to feed and care for the worms over the winter. We will release them and their castings into our All Souls gardens in the spring.

***new***
Ongoing, at Colorado Springs Rescue Mission, blankets needed. Colorado Springs City Council recently voted $500k for additional beds at the Colorado Springs Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army RJM Center. This latest taste of cold and snowy weather lends urgency to helping those in our community without shelter from the coming winter.

Besides needing beds, there is always a need for blankets. If you would like to donate a blanket, quilt, comforter or throw, it would be much appreciated at the shelters. Besides individual people donating, a sewing or needlework group could also help. Sometimes the shelter sends along a blanket when a homeless person leaves, and they are also given out to those turned away due to lack of bed space. if you have a heart to help a person be warm, please consider donating a new or gently used blanket.

The Rescue Mission has a donation warehouse one block west of their campus at 111 West Las Vegas Street. Suggested times are weekdays from 9:30am-4:30pm and Saturday from 9-11am. The Salvation Army accepts donations at their R.J. Montgomery Center, 709 South Sierra Madre Street, near Cimarron, behind the power plant. Best time to donate there is 9am-12pm on weekdays.

12/11, 7:30pm, at Cinemark Carefree Circle, Encore Presentation of "Allegiance." An encore, big-screen presentation of the Broadway play, "Allegiance," presented by George Takei. Straight from its Broadway run and inspired by the true-life experience of its star George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes), Allegiance follows one family's extraordinary journey in this untold American story. Their loyalty was questioned, their freedom taken away, but their spirit could never be broken. Rejoice in one family's triumphant story of hope, love, and forgiveness in this groundbreaking musical.
The movie presentation will be showing at the Cinemark Carefree Circle.  This is a reserved-seating event.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $13 for children and must be purchased in advance. To purchase tickets,  click here . We are thinking of having a short discussion session afterwards, but you can come just for the show.

12/14, 6-8pm, at ASUUC, "Solidarity Dinner with a Cause." Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission is hosting a dinner with a little bit of fun, a lot a bit of flair! Come on down and have a great meal for a great cause! Help them Activate their Activism!
