DNA Testing
As a reminder, please allow up to six weeks from the time the DNA sample arrives at the lab, which depending on mail service can be up to two weeks after you have sent the sample to the NSR. Remember, genotyping for the DNA Breed Profile Test takes comparably longer than the traditional HAL (stress) test - however, it is considerably quicker than the previous physical test mating requirement. The agreement between the NSR and the DNA testing lab states samples are shipped once weekly, Friday for normal business weeks. Please plan your litter registrations and show entries accordingly and submit DNA samples early.
Clarification of the Hampshire DNA testing policy
The only animals
required to be tested using the Hampshire Breed Profile Test (HBPT) are:
- Grandfathered Hampshire sires (sires which passed the PIC/Geneseek Hampshire DNA Color Test) – for litters born on or after June 1, 2019
- Hampshire sires which have not been tested using the PIC/Geneseek Hampshire DNA Color Test (new/young sires)
- Progeny of sires which failed the HBPT and carry a “Provisional” Hampshire pedigree, only if they are intended for breeding
Hampshire females
may (but are not required to) be tested until January 1, 2020 and will not have their pedigree pulled for failing to meet the Hampshire Breed Composition requirement of the HBPT.
To register a Hampshire litter, by a Grandfathered Hampshire sire or a sire that passed the HBPT:
To register a “Provisional” Hampshire litter, by a sire that failed the HBPT:
- Litter application form
- AI Certificate information must be emailed to the NSR office
- Only for litters born on or before May 31, 2019. Litters born on or after June 1, 2019 are ineligible for registration.
- No additional DNA testing is required, unless a boar or gilt within the litter is retained for breeding. Any animal retained for breeding must be tested and pass the HBPT in order to obtain a normal Hampshire pedigree.
|
Members are now able to record Provisional Hampshire Litters.
