BELMUN BELLEVUE-BASED MODEL UN CONFERENCE

BELMUN is a Bellevue-based Model UN conference that was founded by students from the greater Seattle area last year as a way for middle and high school students to practice their debate skills and engage in pertinent world issues. Students, acting delegates in diplomatic committees of the United Nations, and related bodies are assigned country positions which they research and represent in debate at the conference. Based on the debate, delegates form resolutions to solve the problem at hand. Example topics that are discussed include labor exploitation, the trafficking of falsified drugs, international trade tensions, and gender equality. Through participation, delegates not only become more globally aware, but also build lifelong career skills such as critical thinking, writing, argumentation, and diplomatic negotiation.

BELMUN 2019 will take place on March 23 at Chinook Middle School. Students can find more information about the conference and register at  www.bellevuemun.org .
