Animal Hospital of North Asheville is dedicated to decreasing stress, anxiety, and fear in our patients while offering the best medical care possible. You may have noticed over the years the big and small changes in the practice that have led to us earning Fear Free Practice Certification. Small things such as offering treats, kongs, mats, hiding spaces, allowing cats to stay in their carriers or dogs in their family's lap, pre-visit medications, and changes in handling techniques, and larger factors like the design of the practice to include separate cat and dog areas have made a huge difference in patient care.

Now Offering Revolution Plus
Animal Hospital of North Asheville is now offering Revolution Plus to provide your cat with the best and most effective protection against parasites!
Revolution Plus is a simple to apply, quick-drying, monthly topical product that offers protection for cats and kittens against fleas, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms, heartworms, and now additionally ticks.
Parasites do not just cause health issues in cats that go outside; indoor-only cats can be affected too. Fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites and mosquitoes (which cause heartworms) can be carried in on our clothing or shoes, other pets, and come in through doors and windows. We see indoor-only cats in Asheville being affected by all of the above.
REVOLUTION PLUS is a prescription medication.
Before purchasing a new medication, your primary veterinarian will need to authorize approval before it can be refilled. Please give us a call at 828-253-3393 when you need your cat's Revolution refilled so that we may have it approved and filled when you arrive.

Bonnie is Back to Playing Ball!
Bonnie is a happy-go-lucky girl who loves playing with tennis balls. Bonnie has rarely ever been spotted without a ball... or two... or three in her mouth. She lives to play fetch and tug and find it. When no one is available to play, she takes her balls to bed with her for a nap. She even enjoys wearing Elizabethan collars when necessary so she can still keep her balls close, even when she drops them! One day her family noticed her jaws chattering when she picked up one of her balls. This can be a sign of dental pain, so we scheduled Bonnie for a dental cleaning.
At the time of her COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment) during her dental cleaning appointment, Dr. Jen Sim noted that the majority of Bonnie's teeth had been worn down from years of tennis ball chewing. The mix of saliva and fuzz from the ball can work like sandpaper to wear down teeth. Dr. Sim also noted concern for an open root canal in one of her canine teeth. Left untreated, this would invite bacteria into the tooth and cause infection, as well as allow bacteria into the bloodstream with the potential to negatively affect the liver, kidneys, heart, and even brain. Her family chose to try to save the tooth for the sake of Bonnie's ball obsession and elected to perform endodontic (or root canal) therapy.
