• As a reminder, the EPDP Team published its Initial Report on 21 November 2018. Please see this announcement for further information. Publication of an Initial Report is foreseen in the EPDP Team's charter and EPDP Manual.
  • On Tuesday, 27 November, the EPDP Team resumed its deliberations on outstanding items; an initial list of outstanding items can be found here and was shared with EPDP team to review and suggest additional topics. Among others, the EPDP Team discussed the next steps in potentially communicating with the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) as foreseen in the Charter in relation to Initial Report.
  • On Thursday, 29 November, two small teams met to discuss (1) whether and how the Team should communicate to the EDPB generally, and after consideration of that, (2) what the content of a near-term communication might be. The teams decided:
  • any communication to the EDPB should be fairly brief and restricted to conclusions of our team rather than in the form of questions. The Team should notify ASAP the GNSO Council of that intention in order to get their feedback and direction.
  • The team should redouble its efforts to secure independent legal advice. To expedite this, it was recommended that a firm that was contracted previously by the RDS PDP Working Group (WSGR in Brussels) be employed. Other possibilities would be welcomed but time is of the essence. This effort will start immediately.
  • Consultation with Data Privacy Authorities should be pursued in lieu of the EDPB. It was suggested that the Belgium DPA be consulted as ICANN has an office there. Contacts with DPAs will be attempted through different channels. Thomas is working with one contact set.
  • On Thursday, 29 November, the EPDP Support Team assisted in presenting a webinar, outlining the structure of the Initial Report and the new Public comment form tool (the Google Form) and EPDP Team chair responded to the questions asked during the Q&A portion of the webinar.
  • As a reminder, the EPDP Team will hold its third F2F meeting from 16-18 January 2019 in Toronto, Canada. More information regarding the venue and logistics will be communicated to the EPDP Team as soon as available.
