9th Annual Nourish Celebration a Smashing Success!

Guests enjoy the Kamayan!
On Saturday, October 26th the Posner Center was buzzing with over 130 Nourish  guests and we grossed over $36,000! Making this our most successful celebration to date!  Guests enjoyed an exciting interactive food experience with a stunning Kamayan Feast prepared by our friends at the Orange Crunch. Kamayan is a Tagalog word that  means to "eat with your hands" and we are so glad people enjoyed this communal and unique celebratory meal!

Our special guest from the Philippines Jeffrey Sotero, (GSS Philippines Board Member and Municipal Agriculture Officer in Tublay, Benguet) shared a passionate perspective on why seed saving is an essential element of helping his community and country build their own food and seed sovereignty.  Thank you Jeffrey for making the long journey to be with us and for sharing your story and passion for your country and for making our world a better place!

Also, a heartfelt thank our other guest speakers:

Rowen White, (who despite the fires in California) was able to join us virtually and share her perspective as a member of the Mohawk community of Akwesasne and indigenous seed keeper. Rowen's work helping to rematriate seeds to indigenous communities around the United States is inspiring.

And of course, a special shout out to our MC and dear friend  Meta Sarmiento  who infused the event with his inspired hip-hop and spoken word poetry. Thank you for sharing your talents and passion with us all.  Thanks to everyone that made our 9th Annual Nourish Celebration so special!

Grant Funding Received by Rotary District 5450
Supporting Expanding Seed Libraries

We are excited to share that we have received a $6,000 Grant from Rotary District 5450. Spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Mead, Colorado and our grant champion  Dr. Amaranto, a retired Filipino-American Psychiatrist now living in Mead. Dr. Amaranto learned of our work last year and was inspired to support a Colorado based organization working with farmers in his home country. He even conducted a field visit to Tublay, Benguet to meet with the BASS Farmers in January this year. During this visit he witnessed the impact our work is having on farmers and was inspired to continue to help.

L-R: Jeffrey Sotero GSS Philippines Board Member, Sherry Manning GSS Executive Director, Linda Martin President Rotary Club of Mead, and Dr. Amaranto Grant Champion Rotary Club of Mead present the grant funds to GSS during the Nourish Celebration on 10/26.
Thanks to his leadership the Rotary Club of Mead , Rotary Club of Platteville , and Rotary Club of Longmont (Twin Peaks) are all supporting this exciting funding. The funds will be used to embolden our current seed libraries and help new partners launch seed libraries in their communities.  We are grateful for the generosity of Rotary International and looking forward to launching this collaborative work!
