Bayley Beach Clean Up - Sunday December 15 - 10:00 - 12:00
Join Surfrider CT ( https://ct.surfrider.org/ ) for their last beach sweep of 2019! They'll be meeting at 10am at the entrance of Bayley Beach --look for the blue Surfrider tent. They will be there to clean rain or shine (or snow!), so please dress for the weather - and festive holiday attire is highly encouraged! They always ask that volunteers bring their own buckets and gloves, but they'll have backup on hand. The cleanup finishes at 12pm, then we'll venture to Rowayton Seafood from 1-3pm for a holiday mixer. They've had their strongest year yet, and it's all thanks to amazing volunteers, members, and supporters! Food & drinks are on them as they say "Thank You for making 2019 one for the books!"

Christmas Trees and Yard Waste
Rowayton residents get yard waste pick up almost every Wednesday of the month. This year Christmas and New Year's both fall on Wednesdays so there will be no pick up on those dates. Christmas trees can be left at the curb and will be picked up starting on January 8th and on Wednesdays throughout January.

The City of Norwalk has a yard waste site, located at 15 South Smith Street. Starting next week, this site will operate limited hours over the course of the winter and is not open on Saturdays. The last Saturday the site will be open is December 14, 2019 until late March.

Beginning Monday, January 6, the Winter Hours for the Yard Waste Site will be as follows:

Monday through Friday:  7:30am-3:00pm (The scale closes for lunch from 12:00pm-12:30pm, approximately)

Saturday & Sunday: CLOSED

The Site may also close due to winter weather and at the discretion of the Department of Public Works; please visit norwalkct.org for additional information about closures.

There will be two Saturdays in January 2020 when the Site will be open for Christmas Tree and Yard Waste drop-off:

  • Saturday, January 11, 2020: 7:30am-2:00pm
  • Saturday, January 18, 2020: 7:30am-2:00pm

The Yard Waste Site will reopen for the Spring Season on Monday, March 30, 2020.

Fire Marshal Fire Prevention tips for the Holidays

  • Candles and holidays go hand in hand and add wonderful warmth to the festive atmosphere. Candles must be kept away from other combustible decorations and never be left unattended.
  • Embers from fire place ashes can remain hot for several days. If cleaning is necessary use a proper metal container with tight fitting lid for disposal.
  • Always use a fireplace screen to contain flying embers.
  • Christmas trees must be kept watered so they remain moist.
  • Make sure Christmas lights and other electrical fixtures are in good working order. Do not overload circuits.
  • Outdoor lights should be plugged into GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets.
  • Space heaters must be properly plugged directly in to wall outlets and kept clear of combustibles.
  • Make sure smoke and CO detectors are present and operating properly. If you have a security system with smoke detectors, make sure it has been serviced within the past year.
  • In the kitchen use the timer on your phone to remind you of pots left on the stove.

The Rowayton Fire Marshal’s Office wishes everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season. For questions regarding these tips or any fire safety questions please contact the Fire Marshal Office at 203-854-6666 ex.2
