December News
Dear Parents,

We join all Americans in mourning the death of President George H.W. Bush. School will be open tomorrow as our little "points of light" remind us of the great hope we have in the future through our children.

Your generous support of our Annual Fund is greatly appreciated. Participation is key and every gift of every size helps! Funds raised will help us improve the playground so it can be an even more terrific outdoor learning environment for our children.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
Get all the details here.
Many thanks also to last year's parents for their support that helped send us to the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) national conference in November.
Nearly 10,000 early childhood educators from around the world gathered for 4 days of seminars on every possible topic one could imagine relating to developmentally appropriate teaching practices for young children. Our teachers learned a lot and felt empowered being with so many like-minded professionals in our field.
Wow--December sure came fast! The energy level is high and you can feel excitement in every classroom. I know you are all busy with various holiday preparations. Here at school, there are a great variety of seasonal activities including a visit to the church sanctuary to hear the organ, lighting the Hanukkah menorah, spinning dreidels, sing-alongs and lots of jingle bells (of course!) with Mary Finch, and our beloved PreK pageant. We hope you have time to join in some of these very special celebrations. Check the website for calendar information about event times.

The joy that is CCPC Nursery School is evident all year, but most especially these next few weeks.
Happy Holidays
May your winter break be filled with love and wonder!

Early Childhood Education in the News
Great information out today in the LA Times

From Washington Family magazine: Want to really make your kids happy? Teach them the importance of giving to others. Contrary to common belief that kids need and want more “stuff” to be happy, science tells us that it is the act of giving to others that actually boosts happiness and can even improve health and other areas of their lives.

Enjoy this educator's article from Young Children magazine about the Nature as a powerful teacher, and how valuable children's connections to the natural world can be for their development.
Spotlight on Special Activities
Yoga with Mrs.Creer
Nothing to think,
nothing to do,
doing nothing is good for you.

That's our yoga mantra at CCPC!
Yoga with young children involves listening, breathing, moving and calming our bodies. Each thirty minute class has the children learning fun animal poses, dancing, and participating in imaginative group action activities (think snow ball fight with puff balls). We end with a relaxation period and all listen closely for the yoga bell to finish resonating.

With a companion stuffed animal on their stomachs to help intentionally notice breathing, and an optional foot rub from Mrs. Creer, class concludes with happy farewells of "Namaste."

It is amazing to see the calming effect of this special time in our school day.

Note: Twos/Toddlers will participate
beginning in January.

Snow Policy
We follow DC Public Schools for snow day closures and delays.

Decisions about closings and delayed openings (10:00am) will be posted on our website ( www.ccpcwns.com ) by 8:00am in the event of inclement weather.

If DCPS is closed, we are closed.

We may choose to close even when DCPS is open under special circumstances related to particular concerns around our facility with neighborhood road plowing and available parking as well as sidewalk safety/clearing. We do not make up days lost because of snow or other emergencies.
