Stewardship Letters Mailed
Penn Hagood, Senior Warden ~ Harry Gregorie, Junior Warden
The senior and junior wardens' 2019 stewardship letter was mailed to all St. Philippians last week. "May we be so overwhelmed by meeting and following Jesus that we cannot help but invite friends to 'Come and see,'" they wrote, "and may we live each day so that those we meet, whether neighbors or strangers, recognize that we know Jesus and that we can help them know him too."
If you did not receive your letter in the mail or if you'd like another copy, you may pick one up along with a stewardship plan card in the church office or in the Narthex. Alternatively, you can view the letter and submit your plan online by clicking below.
Please fill out a card or submit your plan online by December 31.

Home Missions Gift Card Trees Have Arrived!
If you were in church on December 2, the first Sunday of Advent, you couldn't have helped but see the two trees adorned with handcrafted ornaments attached to little cards with $25 written on the front and a Bible verse written on the back.
If you took an ornament, great! It's yours to keep. Please bring back at least one $25 gift card, which will be given either to a family in need or a Sanders-Clyde Elementary School teacher. If you took more than one ornament, please return at least the same number of $25 gift cards. Remember that the gift cards must be in the amount of $25 each so that they may be distributed evenly. You may return the gift cards at any church service through December 16, or you may drop them at the church office through December 17. If you didn't get an ornament on Sunday, don't worry–there are plenty more!

A Thanksgiving Update from the Home Missions Committee
The entire Warder family serving Thanksgiving meals at Tricounty Family Ministries. This type of service is perfect for families!

Guv and Tammy Gottshalk prepare lunches at the Feeding of the Multitude.
St. Philippians were out and about the week of Thanksgiving participating in wonderful fellowship opportunities. Serving those less fortunate in our community a warm Thanksgiving meal and packing up food for folks to take with them afterward were the tasks at hand.
Church members served at Tricounty Family Ministries in North Charleston, Trinity Worldwide Ministries on Upper King, and the Feeding of the Multitude at Mall Park downtown in partnership with St. John’s Chapel. All walked away even more connected to our community and eager to grow the service opportunities and awareness for our St. Philip's family.
Please continue to look for opportunities for service on the St. Philip's website and do not hesitate to reach out to a
Home Missions contact to learn more. If you or your family are serving in the community, please send us a picture to share! Email Amey Warder with questions or pictures. Every picture is an invitation to others to learn more about service opportunities in our community!

Offering Envelopes to be Mailed Quarterly
To cut down on undelivered and returned boxed sets of offering envelopes, which in the past have been mailed once a year, St. Philip's will now be mailing out envelope packets quarterly. Look for the first set to arrive this month, but please continue to use your 2018 envelopes or the envelopes available in the church pews through the end of the year. If you do not receive a set of envelopes by the end of December, please contact Juli Garland at
jgarland@stphilipschurchsc.org or (843) 722-7734.

2018 Advent Devotional Recommendations
In the Collect for the First Week of Advent, we pray that God would “... give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light.” Preparing ourselves through Scripture and prayer and contemplation using an Advent devotional guide helps us to do just that.
This year, the St. Philip’s clergy recommendations for Advent devotionals are
Advent for Everyone: Luke,
by N.T. Wright, and
God is in the Manger
:
Reflections on Advent and Christmas,
by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Both books are available on various online retail sites such as Amazon and Christianbook.com, and copies will be available in the church office beginning this week for $15.
