The Bright Morning Star
by Bob Ransbottom
See, I am coming soon...It is I, Jesus. ...I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.

--Revelation 22:12a, 16a, c
Wikipedia says that Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas as well as for the return of Jesus at the second coming. The term is a version of the Latin word meaning "coming".

The theme for this week of Advent is Hope. Even though we are a broken and fallen humanity, we are filled with the hope that the love and peace that Jesus preached will fill the world and that the spirit of this season will be contagious to others. While we pray and wait for this, we are comforted by the promise that Jesus is coming, in fact, is here. That He is the bright morning star by which we can set our course to navigate through life.

In the same way, we can be a bright star for others by sharing God's love with them. One way is through Adopt-a-Family, a ministry we also celebrate this week. Please share the hope we know through Christ by participating in this wonderful outreach ministry.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to be a bright morning star, a beacon of hope for those less fortunate than we are. Amen.

Reflection:
  • Waiting is difficult. There is so much available quickly and easily these days, yet God finds ways of making us wait. How does waiting affect you?
  • Share with a friend or family member something you are waiting for.
  • Encourage someone you know who is weary of waiting. Remind them of God's promises.
  • Take inventory of your relationship with God. Are you struggling with His silence?
