Twenty-five applicants invited to present to the Commission on March 7, 2019

The CHRC's Call for Proposals released this year generated 93 applications requesting $36.4 million in funding, representing the second highest amount requested in the last ten years.  The CHRC's budget enables $5.9 million to support new grant awards this fiscal year.  This year's Call for Proposals looked to support the following three types of projects: (1) promoting delivery of essential health services: primary/preventative care, dental, and women's health services; (2) addressing the heroin and opioid epidemic through behavioral health integration; and (3) promoting food security and addressing childhood and family obesity.

Following a call with CHRC Commissioners on February 5, twenty-five top-scoring applicants will be presenting to the CHRC Commissioners on Tuesday, March 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Annapolis, Room 145, House of Delegates. The meeting on March 7 will be open to the public. The CHRC submitted its budget testimony to the House Appropriations Health and Social Services Subcommittee and Senate Budget & Taxation Health and Human Services Subcommittee earlier this month.  The CHRC's presentation highlighted its grant support for projects that are innovative, sustainable, and replicable.  In its budget analysis, the Department of Legislative Services recommended full funding of the CHRC in FY 2020 ($8 million) provided in the Governor's allowance for FY 2020 and required under statute.  In its analysis, DLS also noted that 78% of CHRC grants had been sustained at least one year after grant funds were expended, based on analysis of grants awarded in prior years (FY 2012 and FY 2014) performed by CHRC staff.  For copies of additional reports and presentations given by the CHRC, click
