Community Brief

Thank you for your commitment to making Acceleration East High School, A Place of High Achievement.

"We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends. Faith, courage, brotherhood, dignity, ambition, responsibility - these are needed today as never before."
~ Mary McLeod Bethune

Our rigorous academic curriculum coupled with culturally responsive instruction is resulting in strong student achievement, but we need your continued support. Parents, the following are critically important in the success of your student's high school career:
  • Monitor your student's ProgressBook weekly to check their progress. If you need help with logging in, please email Mr. Hall, our testing coordinator at [email protected]
  • Communicate with your student's teachers. They want to hear from you with any questions or concerns. Email is the best option during the school day, but you can also request a parent/teacher conference by calling Ms. Vanessa Roca, our guidance counselor:  407-992-0917 ext. 632 2224.
  • Expect your student to attend school every day and arrive to school on time in AEHS  dress code. School starts at 7:25 a.m. Remember, you can monitor attendance on ProgressBook as well.
We consider it a privilege to serve and support your student. Thank you for your partnership.

With Phoenix Pride,

Mr. Doug Loftus
Principal

Reading for pleasure: #1 titles with students over the last 30 days
These two books have tied as the most recently popular with the students as measured by checkouts from our media center:

* The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

* Unsouled #3 by Neal Shusterman

A reminder to our AEHS parents. The holidays are just around the corner. Books always make terrific gifts as the nearby chart demonstrates!

Rigor in the Classroom II
Reading class with Mrs. Williams

Students in Mrs. Williams' reading class have been working on both word choice and tone

This is a snapshot of just part of the students' reading assignment. Here they had to read an extract from a famous piece of literature, determine the tone of the passage, and then identify the words that helped to create this tone. (The students actually examined seven, not just two different passages!)

Valencia College scholarships
Ms. Alania Hodge from Valencia College came to speak with a number of the seniors about scholarships including the Bridges to Success Scholarship that pays for both tuition and books.

Please followup with Ms. Hodge regarding any questions pertaining to Valencia scholarships
Campus Environment
One of the many things we pride ourselves on at Acceleration East High School is in providing a safe and clean environment for the students and staff. This picture was taken a few days ago of our clean hallways. As you can imagine, a healthy school environment like this helps to promote learning in the classroom and school pride.

Monday's Motivational Moment
GENIUS!

Sarasate, the greatest
Spanish violinist of the nineteenth century,
was once called a genius by a famous critic.
In reply to this, Sarasate declared,
"Genius! For thirty-seven years
I've practiced fourteen hours a day, and now
they call me a genius."

The lesson for our students? "You can become the star of the hour if you make the minutes count."
