2018 Highlights

From an expanded vision, to rebranding, to our two most successful conferences yet, and more, this has been an amazing year of growth and impact for the stakeholders of IWL. Thank you for being a part of our community.

2018 Conferences - our best yet!

This year, women and men came together in Louisville and Indianapolis for inspiration, learning, and connections. Attendees heard stories of optimism, relentless positivity, and courage - just to name a few - and learned the importance of being your true self, that women aren't seen or heard in media, and the power of asking questionsWe agreed that #NowIsTheTime to become #BetterTogether and committed to taking big steps toward our personal and professional goals. The energy from these powerful days has continued to carry us throughout the year.

New Look and Expanded Vision

On August 28 we also revealed our new logo for IWL. It's not just about the look - this image reflects an expanded and exciting vision for our future and our promise to help accelerate the advancement of women.

As partners in talent development, we unleash the highest level of performance for women, men and their organizations. We do this through perspective changing experiences including conferences, workshops, consulting and individualized programs.

We are committed to being bold in our journey as a force for positive change, and we are excited for the even bigger impact we can make together.

Interactive Workshops

Engaged groups of women and men joined the IWL team this year for workshops on allyship, unconscious bias, workplace inclusion and more. We truly are better together, and we saw that lived out in rooms filled with leaders in our community.
It was powerful to come together with passionate men and women and have rich, productive discussion on sometimes uncomfortable topics - and we plan on doing this even more in 2019!

For more information on IWL's workshops -  Activating Male Allies, Better Together, Unconscious Bias, The Imbalance of Power, and Connecting with Purpose  - visit our  website.

Partnerships

IWL is a resource and a connector, and in 2018 we focused on building partnerships with other like-minded organizations in Indianapolis and Louisville. Building successful partnerships will continue to be a focus in 2019.

IWL became a Champion of the Conscious Capitalism Indianapolis Chapter in 2018, with CEO Kim Graham Lee serving as the chapter's first  president.
As a former leader in tech, Kim Graham Lee served on the planning committee for the Indy Women in Tech (IWiT) Summit in August, and IWiT became a partner of IWL.
In Louisville, IWL continued its partnership with Women Influencing Louisville (WIL)  and co-hosted "The Empowerment Project" together.
IWL formed a great partnership with the Indiana Leadership Association this year, hosting workshops at Shafer Leadership Academy in Muncie.

Powerful Lessons Learned

It's gratifying to hear what an impact IWL has had on individuals through our perspective-changing experiences all year long. Hear what some of those individuals had to say about their learnings from IWL:

"I loved the concept of falling in love with a problem so that you're invested in the solution!"

"I need to be conscious of my biases and actively work to overcome them."

"Taking ownership of your career is the most important, freeing, and encouraging piece to building a future."

"I have not held myself to a high enough standard for supporting the women on my team and in our organization."

"We can't be shy about continually engaging men in the  conversation about gender-balanced leadership."

"It helped me to open my eyes to biases that exist and  inequalities that occur with and without conscious thought."

"I learned to be more proactive as an ally and engage and correct poor  behaviors in group settings whether or not women (or other  diverse representatives) are present ."

Thank you for being a part of an exciting year with IWL - we know we will make an even bigger impact together in 2019!
IWL Blog Post: What I Have Learned in the "Year of the Woman"
By Anna Rauh
Marketing Communications and Event Coordinator, IWL Foundation
"'So what now?'  What can we do to be better in 2019? Contrary to some of the messages we've seen this year, I believe this action plan doesn't have to be divisive. These problems give us all the chance to ask questions and expose our vulnerability. Having courageous conversations gives us the amazing opportunity to be real with one another - to be truly open and see different perspectives. And what a richer existence we can have if we can respectfully open up to one another! "

Christi Anderson Personal Innovation Award
Now accepting nominations for 2019!

This August, we presented our 4th Annual Christi Anderson Personal Innovation Award at the Indianapolis IWL Women's Leadership Conference to Rhyan Smith, a single mother and 3rd year law student at Robert H. McKinney School of Law. As her nominator put it, "a woman who exemplifies determination and innovation as she rebuilds her life after
surviving domestic violence, divorce, and financial devastation, she is determined not to be a victim, but to be victorious!" The scholarship went toward helping Rhyan further the Finishers Scholar Initiative and reach her goal of practicing corporate law and advocating for women who have survived domestic violence.

We are now taking nominations for the 2019 Christi Anderson Personal Innovation Award. If you know a bold and innovative woman who deserves next year's award, please use this nomination form. Donations can also be made to the scholarship fund.

This time of year, everyone is consumed with all of the endless things that need to be done for and before the holidays. But before we wrap this year up in a big red bow, we're focusing on the theme  Reflect. This month we challenge you to take 20 minutes to indulge in a reflection of the past year. Ask yourself: Am I happy with how I've spent my time? What lessons have I learned? Who and what am I grateful for? Give yourself permission to celebrate the accomplishments you've made, and to take a breath before starting again.  Then ask yourself: What top 3 concrete actions can I take to live the life I want to live next year? These can be as simple or as challenging as you choose, but they need to be things you're excited about - even if they're a little daunting. Once you reflect, you'll feel even better heading into the most wonderful time of the year!
