FEATURED EVENT: Intel Engineers Visit 4th Grade Classrooms
Last Thursday and Friday, Feb. 21 and 22, more than 170 Intel engineers visited over forty-five 4th grade classrooms across the District to talk about the work they do and engage students in a hands-on, collaborative activity called "pop fly." Students were given a roll of duct tape, a small paper cup, a ping pong ball, a wooden spool, and two to four paint stirring sticks. They were asked to create a lever that, when stepped on, would cause the ball to pop up into the air high enough to be caught by a classmate. The students were immediately engaged, were extremely creative with their designs, demonstrated great teamwork, and were very pleased by their results. Many thanks to Intel for organizing these visits and to the volunteers who took time out of their busy day to expose students to the exciting field of engineering. HAPPENING IN HILLSBORO

High school forecasting for the 2019-20 school year will soon begin. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the 2019-20 Course Catalog , available on our website, and note the date and time of your school's academic planning information session. Please remember that courses and programs offered are contingent upon adequate funding and enrollment, and that not all courses are offered at every high school. Forecasting sheets do require a parent or guardian's signature, so please be prepared to talk to your student about their selections and make sure they align with their goals.

RoboExpo
Glencoe's Team Shockwave will host its 6th Annual RoboExpo on Monday, March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Glencoe cafeteria, 2700 NW Glencoe Rd. RoboExpo is a free, fun event that brings together robotics teams from across the District and is where Team Shockwave members will unveil their 2019 competition robot. The event features a spaghetti dinner,* 50/50 raffle, and silent auction fundraiser (*dinner cost is $10 per person; please RSVP to Shannon Waldo in advance).

Oregon Healthy Teens Survey
Each year, the Oregon Health Authority administers one of two surveys to teens: the Healthy Teens Survey in odd-numbered years (grades 8 and 11); and the  Student Wellness Survey in even-numbered years (grades 6, 8 and 11). The purpose of these anonymous surveys is to gather important information about the health and well-being of teens across the state. Letters will be sent home to the families of students in the identified grades with additional information, including frequently-asked questions. These letters are also posted on our website .

National School Breakfast Week
