The new Northern Nevada State Veterans Home is a 102,000-square-foot-facility which will serve Nevada's military service men and women with skilled nursing, memory care, and a welcoming, caring environment. Designed to be a community living center instead of a traditional hospital-style facility, the state-of-the-art home will have 96 beds, a house-like environment and special amenities you won't find in a regular nursing home.
It will feature a fun and lively town center with a dining hall, conservatory, beauty/barber shop, store, coffee shop, physical therapy, chapel and parade grounds to host veterans' events. There will be administrative offices, nursing offices and other support operations as well. The new facility, located in Sparks Kietzke Lane just across the street from the Department of Motor Vehicles office, is needed to serve the estimated number of 80,000 veterans in Northern Nevada.
The ground breaking ceremony was in July 2017. Governor Sandoval attended the event, personally shoveling some ceremonial dirt to celebrate.
"Nevada is home to nearly 300,000 veterans, and we are a state where your service is honored," stated Sandoval in his prepared remarks. "That is why you have my full commitment that I will continue to do everything within my power to ensure Nevada is the most military- and veteran-friendly state in the nation. Across the state, Nevadans have responded to this call and today we take an important step in cementing that legacy. It is here we will take care of some of our aging heroes and provide care to those who dedicated their lives to serving our country. I am honored and humbled to join you today and I offer my sincere gratitude to the many individuals who worked tirelessly to make this day possible."
It is expected to open in December 2018.
