Have you registered your team for the Florida Mine Safety Program's (FMSP) Second Annual Surface Mining Emergency Response Training and Competition? The event will be held Feb. 25 - March 1, 2019 at the Florida Public Safety Institute, located just northwest of Tallahassee, Florida. Click here to view hotel accommodations and rates. FPSI's 10th Annual Instructor Training Seminar Rescheduled
The Florida Public Safety Institute's (FPSI) 10th Annual Instructor Training Seminar has been rescheduled for Jan. 14-18, 2019. The event, which was pushed back due to Hurricane Michael, was originally scheduled for Oct. 14-19, 2018. For those who already registered and paid for the seminar when it was scheduled for October, a credit will be issued toward the rescheduled event in 2019. This seminar offers more than 60 training sessions in leadership, firearms, defensive tactics, driving, as well as traditional classroom training in various topics to the 200-250 attendees we have each year.

The Florida Mine Safety Program had the opportunity to interview Sam Pierce, MSHA's Southeastern District Manager for metal/nonmetal mines, at the 2018 Southeast Mine Safety & Health Conference. Pierce discussed the importance of mine safety conferences and competitions, as well as MSHA's latest initiatives.

The Florida Mine Safety Program (FMSP) aims to educate those who partake in mining operations by assisting mining companies and mining contractors with their health and safety training. For more than 30 years, the program has operated as a federally-funded grant program under the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), whose mission is to prevent death, disease and injuries in the mining industry. This is done through a variety of training courses, conferences and informational seminars offered by FMSP. These courses highlight proper emergency evacuation plans, health and safety standards and more. FMSP diligently works to ensure that miners working in both Florida metal and nonmetal operations are aware of the health and safety standards and are effectively trained to take precautionary measures. Through a collaborative effort, FMSP and MSHA Educational Field and Small Mine Services (EFSMS) work together to reduce the frequency and severity of mining accidents and ensure a safe environment for all.
