Put a spring in your step

A ccording to numerous studies, pet owners tend to have longer lives. While there are many theories as to why this may be the case, Nancy Cressman, education manager with the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society, says, "There's no question that seniors benefit from having a pet."
Pets bring many advantages - everything from companionship to help in keeping you active. However, there are also some serious factors to take into account before you consider bringing a 4-legged companion into your home.

A ST. PATRICK'S DAY STAPLE
What is Colcannon?

The simple answer is-
Irish mashed potatoes mixed with greens and scallions and lots of butter and cream.
Not surprisingly, the Irish have all sorts of ways of cooking potatoes, with festive names like  champ , bruisy, pandy,  boxty , and this one, colcannon.
In the following colcannon recipe, we mix the mashed potatoes in with chopped cooked kale, green onions, milk or cream, and lots of butter.
To serve one makes a depression in the middle of the mashed potatoes and puts a knob of butter in it. To eat it, you dip a forkful of the potatoes in the melted butter.
If ever there was a recipe to get one to eat one's greens, this is it.
We like this version from Elise Bauer on Simply Recipes.

Are the markets making you jittery?

Other major U.S. and Canadian indices also dropped significantly, creating a media frenzy.  But it's essential to put this volatility in context, says Sun Life Global Investment's Chief Investment Officer, Sadiq Adatia. "You can't get caught up in the noise, negatively or positively," he says. "If you have 2 pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, you don't know what's going on; you have to wait until you have more pieces to create the picture. It's the same thing with investing and the economy."
