Counting down to our Spring Show

Although much remains to be done inside and out, we're confident that we'll be able to hold our Spring Show in our new showrooms. Our basement storage area is packed with fresh stock, and we're more than a little anxious to bring it upstairs.

The show will take place on May 5 & 6 from 10:00 until 4:00. It's been more than a year since our barn was leveled by the freak tornado that hit Pumpkin Hollow, and we're excited to get back to business. We hope to see many friends, old and new, in our new shop.

Of course, for readers who aren't planning to come, we'll publish pictures and descriptions of many of the best pieces not sold at the show in our May Newsletter. This should go online  early the following week.

Nearing completion

With just over two weeks remaining until our Grand Opening and Spring Show, the serious nail biting has begun. The rear gallery is ready, and the floor of the front gallery was sealed yesterday. Our office needs its floor finished, cabinets and shelving installed, and paint on the walls and trim. The tile floor in the entry should be finished by the end of today, and the various landscaping issues continue to be addressed daily. Although the upper floor will not be finished, the building should be ready for final inspection in just a few days. If so, we're expect to begin moving our inventory in by the middle of next week.

When we launched our business more than three decades ago, we named it Pumpkin Hollow Antiques, taking advantage of the cozy sound of the name of the part of Conway in which our home was and still is. As the business grew and our shows took us to more urban communities, we switched to the name by which we're known today, Jan and John Maggs Antiques.

As we prepare to move into our new barn and resume normal activities, the time seems right to make another change. While our focus remains early English furniture and Stuart and Georgian jewelry, we have increasingly added paintings and accessories of later vintage. As we rethink our presentation and advertising to maximize the potential of our new showrooms, we plan to tweak our business name to reflect our business more accurately. Our new card, above, sums up the change.

Pippin's Page

Pippin
Work on the barn continues, but Pippin has perhaps become more accustomed to it than we have. Click the image for a picture of him, quietly ignoring the small bulldozer just outside of his window.

The Back Page

The "Belgian" lantern that we've purchased to sit on a post in front of the barn came from a company named "World Imports." But when we took a closer look at the box, look at what we saw.
As always, we thank you for reading. The future is looking bright, and we hope you'll be a part of it.
