to shift away from work zone
Summary of Impacts
Beginning Monday, April 23, 2018, the north end of the Terminal B/C Arrivals (lower-level) roadway used by taxis and app-based ride services will close for construction related to Project Journey.
Passengers boarding taxis and app-based ride services will need to use the marked areas outside Doors 4 through 9 on the Arrivals level.
Minor impacts are expected as vehicles are detoured around the work zone.
Details
Beginning Monday, April 23, the north end of Arrivals roadway used by taxis and app-based ride services (Uber/Lyft) will close for construction related to Project Journey.
American Airlines passengers can access taxi services outside Arrivals (Baggage Claim) Doors 8 and 9.
App-based ride services will continue pick-ups outside Arrivals (Baggage Claim) Doors 6 and 7.
Drivers should follow signage and police/airport staff direction around the work zone.
The roadway closure will continue 24/7 for several days while excavation is performed behind construction barricades.
The speed limit in the work zone is 15 miles per hour.
Timing
The taxi loading area near American Airlines baggage claim will shift on Thursday, April 19, in preparation for the road closure.
Excavation begins in the roadway on or about Monday, April 23 and will continue for several days.
The detour will be in place 24/7 until excavation and paving are complete.
Project Benefits
The closure will provide space for construction crews to install a stormwater drain beneath the roadway.
When
Project Journey is completed in 2021, two new 50,000-square-foot buildings with security checkpoints will replace three smaller checkpoints currently serving Terminal B/C – increasing the post-security space to include all of National Hall and its premier shops and restaurants for ticketed travelers. In addition, a new 14-gate concourse will replace Gate 35X – ending the need for travelers to ride buses to board regional jets parked outside. Concourse amenities will include jetbridges, holdrooms, concessions and an American Airlines Admirals Club lounge.
