January 2019
I'm wondering what new dreams, goals, plans, action steps, and New Year's resolutions you're adopting for this awesome and auspicious new year!
I've been so aware during the holiday period of the power of habits, patterns, and the inertia to stay the same. I'm also renewed and recommitted to UNSTICK myself from a few of these habits and patterns and reclaim my vitality toward what actually interests and inspires me.

In researching and planning for the new upcoming "Unity Spiritual's Explorers" workshops, I was especially inspired to "clean house" again. This of course is not just the physical space we occupy, home, office, desk, drawers, cars, cabinets, etc., but the emotional, mental. and spiritual space that gets more than dusty throughout the year(s).
I've recently enrolled myself in a new class focused on reducing "overwhelm". In the course, I'm exploring the ways we are living, and some of these discoveries have a way of shocking me into some different actions too.

I will be facilitating 4 weeks of study regarding "Rightsizing" your life during March on Thursday nights. Check my calendar in February for updates...
I know that if I don't intentionally and purposefully take measured action steps, that my vision and dreams stay entirely "theoretical" or "ethereal". Here's some resources that may support you in your new way of being.

I'm also aware that this will not be as easy as it reads and seems since we are wired for emotional binds. We must find a way to tiptoe around the small little animalistic fear part of the brain called the amygdala.
My new mantra relative to accomplishing this with less strain and overwhelm is "R and R" --- a reduce and repeat method. Instead of doing what most impulses dictate, which is to either attack the mess or avoid it all together, you can adopt a much gentler approach. Find one that doesn't send you continually into lock down and frustration, despair, or exhaustion. Take a deep breath, remember YOUR goals, take baby steps, and keep moving in the direction that liberates YOU.
Awareness is key here. So, every day, even if all you can handle is a single paperclip, or moving one pile from one corner of the desk to another. Little by little, one drawer at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time, with all the awareness you can muster, tiptoeing around the amygdala, you start to see the gleaming, empty space on your desk or home and better yet, the spaciousness inside yourself.
If you are already in groans of protest, "yeah but. . . yeah but. . . I have too much stuff and stress, and not enough time, at this rate it will take me a lifetime to clear it --- that's the overwhelm talking, not the real you. If my R & R baby step method is making you cringe because of how ineffectual it seems, let me tell you what is really going on under the radar when you adopt a simple, conscious, slow-drip approach to clearing: it creates new neural pathways in the brain, which grows new habits, that start to feel really good, and magically, expand into more effortless tending of other areas of your home and life. A momentum will develop, like a snowball rolling downhill, and I shift from the "drudgery" of making the changes to the "uplift" from making them.

So, what is one thing you could do to Reduce and Repeat for one-minute every day in your home or life? That would be the place to start.
I've been blessed to support and witness a number of friends and group participants who are no longer willing to "wonder where their money goes" and instead shift into "telling the money where to go," My gratitude for the habits I have formed in this arena is unspeakable. The inspiration I experience from witnessing others is life-giving fuel for ongoing vitality. Like with clearing, de-cluttering, rightsizing, there are many resources in this arena to support you as well. I hope you will join the class and proceed with your own wise actions in creating an easier life for your and yours.
Here's a list of joyful possibilities to refer to when you are committed to "no spending." Other practices I've used over the years includes not purchasing anything that wasn't consumable for 30 days. It has been helpful to keep a log of 30 days of spending to see where the money is leaking off without my awareness. For example a daily Starbucks at $5 is $1300 annually, that doesn't include the yogurt, sandwich, cookies, scones, or bottled water. Where else has my habits led me that doesn't yield what I'm dreaming of like travel, education, home improvements, or gifting?
