Adoption of a new building and fire code is underway
Code amendments may be proposed now through April 26

Denver Community Planning and Development has announced the start of a public process to adopt an updated building and fire code using the 2018 ICC codes. The city will consider amendments to the 2018 ICC codes to ensure they work for Denver’s specific climate and context. We will also take a hard look at our  existing Denver amendments  with the goal of eliminating unnecessary sections, jargon, and complexity.

Interested members of the public will have until Friday, April 26 to propose amendments. To submit amendments or review those proposed, visit  www.denvergov.org/BuildingCode .

New to Denver: A voluntary "green construction code"

For the first time in the city's history, this code cycle will include adopting the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) on a voluntary basis. The IGCC is a novel code that coordinates with standards already used in Denver to create a framework for more sustainable building design, construction, and operation.

Thank you for your patience.

Other updates from around the office
The Green Buildings Rules and Regulations final hearing was postponed until April 11. Draft rules for implementing the Green Buildings Ordinance remain in effect and are expected to be approved at the April 11th meeting of the Board of Public Health & Environment.

The commercial energy code policy (IECC C101, C103, C202, C408) has been updated to clearly specify that the "additional efficiency package" required by code for the IECC's prescriptive path only applies to new construction projects. It is not required for existing construction.

A new building code policy was published outlining how to obtain the required special inspection of exterior walls in a high-rise building. Download this IBC 1705 policy. (PDF)
