Announcements
Help Fight the Flu! Health Service will be offering another opportunity to receive the flu vaccine on October 30 from 10 a.m. -1:30 p.m. in the Union Williams Lounge. Students may charge their student account. Staff/Faculty pay at the time of service with cash/check and submit to insurance for reimbursement. Cost is $25.

Luther College's visual and performing arts department (VPA) is presenting a live radio show performance of Howard Koch's radio script "The War of the Worlds" at 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, in the Dahl Centennial Union, Marty's. The performance will also be broadcast on Luther's radio station KWLC at 1240AM and online through KWLC's website, luther.edu/KWLC .

Worship Leader Workshops - Sunday morning worship leaders gain hands-on ministry and leadership experience in many areas; we'll be exploring three of those areas in more depth after worship on Sunday, November 4, from 11am-noon. Participants are invited to learn about reading and stage presence with Sue Blair, chanting with Prof. Greg Peterson, and prayer-writing with Pastor Annie. After the workshops, participants are invited to enjoy a free brunch at the Peace Dining Room. To sign up for the workshops and brunch, use this google form .

Tensions across the country were high in 1968: Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on April 4; U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy was assassinated during a primary victory rally on June 5; Anti-Vietnam protests were in full swing; And a group of Luther College students paved the way for generations to come with the creation of the Black Student Union. Luther will celebrate the establishment of the Black Student Union throughout the 2018-19 academic year, with the kickoff during homecoming weekend, and a closing alumni program April 26-28, 2019.

As part of the Homecoming 2018 festivities , Gregory and Victoria Fields will receive the Spirit of Luther Award at the Alumni Dinner on Friday, October 26. President Paula Carlson will recognize the couple and present the award.

Find the Creature! A Frankenstein Scavenger Hunt will be taking place in the library on October 31 from 8-9:30 p.m. Come to the Hovde Room to enjoy treats and search for Frankenstein’s creature! Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. Costumes are encouraged, with prizes for the most ingenious outfits. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein!

All Saints Chapel  will be Friday, November 2, 10:30-10:50 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. This annual All Saints Chapel is an opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate the joy of new life and grieve the loss of loved ones. We include name(s)  of immediate family/household members who are born or adopted in the past year and those who have passed away since November 1, 2017.   Please send names to College Ministries office so we can include them in our All Saints Chapel bulletin. Send names or questions via email to  [email protected]  or by phone   (563) 387-1040 .

Society has taken a "dark turn" since the turn of the 21st century, embracing globalization of a fear of others, according to ethnomusicologist Peter Hoesing. Hoesing, '03, will discuss this turn in "Multiculturalism and its Malcontents," at the annual Phi Beta Kappa Symposium in the Humanities, part of Homecoming weekend. The lecture begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall.

Jazz Night  will take place on Friday, October 26 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. in Marty’s. Luther’s Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform, and the dance floor will be open to all. Join SAC Homecoming and Luther’s talented jazz groups for a swinging celebration of homecoming week!

Featuring the college's premiere touring ensembles , the Luther College Homecoming Concert will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 28, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Performing at the concert are Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Baldwin; Concert Band, under the direction of guest director Jack Stamp and Nordic Choir, conducted by Andrew Last. In addition, four music awards will be presented.

The Luther SAC Homecoming Parade  will take place on Saturday, October 27 at 10 a.m. in downtown Decorah. The parade will start on Water Street south of Decorah High School and end at Luther’s campus. Various student organizations, athletic teams, and residence halls will represent Luther in the parade. Join SAC in celebrating Luther’s homecoming this Saturday morning!

Pizza and Blanket making with FOCUS & Outreach  — Friday, October 26 from 6:00- 9:00pm in the Center for Faith and Life, Melanchton Room (Room 205) join the FOCUS community & Outreach teams in eating pizza and tying blankets for Lutheran World Relief. The CAF is closed for homecoming festivities so it is a great opportunity to connect with Luther’s faith community & FREE FOOD!

VOLUNTEER/NON-PROFIT CAREER FAIR:   Thursday, November 1, Dahl Centennial Union, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Looking for an internship, part-time, full-time or volunteer position in the non-profit sector? Attend this event and network with representatives from over 25 organizations about their career opportunities!

International Students and Allies Association will present its annual fashion show to showcase and celebrate the rich culture and diversity of Luther, with fashion from across the globe as well as styles designed by students on campus specifically for the show. The International Fashion Show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Center for the Arts Atrium. Tickets are available at the show for $3 per person.
