Creating a community of empathetic students

In our newest blog, Danielle Petrucci,  K-12 Wellness Curriculum Coordinator at the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District, shares her experience of how our suicide prevention workshops opened the door for her students to have honest conversations and seek help when they're struggling.

"Ten years ago, Samaritans'  Community Education and Outreach  team first entered my health classroom. I cannot begin to describe how transformative and significant this visit would be for the students - and for me. Like many individuals, I was scared to talk about suicide and depression. Even though I knew how common mental illness is, I did not know how to talk about it. The social stigma that exists with mental health issues is an unspoken issue in society, and it was a strong barrier even for a health educator..."
Meet the Samaritans 2019 Boston Marathon team (pt. 3)
The  Samaritans 2019 Boston Marathon team continues to astound with nearly $150,000 raised toward our team goal of $160,000 and one month to go! The dedicated runners on this team are loss survivors, volunteers, and folks who have benefited from our programs and services. Each month leading up to the big day, we'll be highlighting members of our outstanding team. Grief Support Services Program Welcomes New Director!
In January, our Grief Support Services program welcomed Cheri Andes as the new Director!

Cheri was most recently the Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Massachusetts, a vital state resource for individuals and families facing the challenges of mental illness, providing free mental health family-based education, family and peer support, and grassroots advocacy.

Are you interested in joining our team? You're in luck! We are accepting applications for our  Overnight Helpline Coordinator ! This position  ensures Helpline coverage by supporting and supervising volunteers during the overnight shift. The Overnight Helpline Coordinator will provide and oversee the emotional support given to callers to fulfill our mission of serving the isolated, despairing, and suicidal through compassionate and nonjudgmental listening.
