January Dinner
Special Guest Entertainment

Jamie Waring

Wednesday, January 2, 2019
No Host Bar starts at 6:00 p.m.
Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Growing up in Southern California in close proximity to several military air stations offered no shortage of military aircraft crisscrossing his childhood skyline. That, coupled with his dad's service as a Marine helicopter, C-130, and civilian airline pilot, infused in Jamie a passion for aviation and service. After college, Jamie served as a Marine CH-53E helicopter pilot with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466, "The Wolfpack", from 1990-1997. After leaving the Marine Corps, Jamie worked as a public school English teacher for the next 16 years.

He had been feeling a burden for the veterans returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and was praying over how to serve them when through a series of events too coincidental to be anything but God's direction and plan, Jamie heard about Mighty Oaks and then met Chad in a "chance" encounter two days later. Chad invited Jamie to attend a Legacy Program graduation to see what the program was all about. That's all it took. Jamie began volunteering and helping where and how he could over the next couple of years. During this time, Jamie used his skills as an English teacher to help the Mighty Oaks team with editing of the various book projects they were working on.

Then, in 2016, with three books in the works, Jamie took a two-year leave of absence from teaching to focus on the book projects and some personal growth. God, and Chad, had something else in mind. The West Coast Regional Facilitator position was created and a one-year contract was offered to Jamie. The trap was set. That one-year contract evolved into a staff position.

As the Facilitator, Jamie is responsible for all the administration and logistics for programs conducted at SkyRose Ranch in San Miguel, CA. Jamie also oversees social media related to all programs, continues to help with the editing process on book projects, and speaks for and represents the Mighty Oaks Foundation on the West Coast and is the "local representative" in the Central California region.

Jamie and his wife, Kathy, leverage their 27+ years of marriage by serving as instructors for the Marriage Advance Program. They have three grown children and one daughter-in-law.

Start the New Year Right

With all the hustle and bustle and fanfare of the holidays and preps for the new year, we wanted to stop and take a moment and thank everyone whom has supported Estrella Warbirds Museum in any way during this past year.  Without your help, we could not have continued to make the great advances which have transpired and helped to establish the plans for the coming year.  We have continued to grow each year.  This past year is no exception by any means.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit museum, we have continued to not only remain solvent (without any tax dollar support!), but also continued to be debt free. We take great care to insure what we accomplish today will be here for future generations to enjoy tomorrow.  This could not be accomplished without your help!

If you are not a member, we encourage you to take time this new year and invest in membership with the museum.  Now is the best time to become a member, or to even upgrade your membership status.

Attached to this newsletter is a link to the January 2019 copy of our membership Eagle Newsletter. This is normally mailed out to all members each month.  It will give you a good idea of some of the membership happenings during the past month.  At the bottom of this email, there is a small paragraph about membership or follow this link for more information and sign-up.
Betsy's Biscuit Bomber Will Be Heading to Normandy

Betsy's Biscuit Bomber is a C-47B
which calls home, Estrella Warbirds Museum. The aircraft is operated by the Gooney Bird Group.
Next summer, she will take part in Daks over Normandy, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

In June, 2019, DC-3s and C-47s will unite from around the world to form the largest contingent of C-47s/DC-3s ever gathered since the days of the Normandy Invasion and pay homage to the thousands of men and women who shed their blood in the fields of battle of World War II.  In addition, she has been invited to participate in the 70th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift (June 10-19), and Paratrooper Drops Reenactment during the summer of 2019 at Duxworth, England.  Click on C47 picture to learn more.

During this past year, Betsy has been undergoing strenuous retrofitting and restoration to insure her flight worthiness for this multi-continent excursion.
For the past ten years Betsy's Biscuit Bomber has been part of our family at the museum.  We are so proud to know she has survived over the years and will return once again to Europe, but this time under a completely different venue than she did originally during World War II.

There is still time to get involved. Take a moment to learn a bit more of this Douglas C-47B and also to learn and The Gooney Bird Group..
