CEE Approves 2018 AHIMA HIM Curricula Competencies
Jan 24, 2019
In response to the HIM Reimagined (HIMR) initiative to build a framework for health information management (HIM) transformation and position professionals for the future, the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) Curricula Workgroup developed the 2018 AHIMA Health Information Management Curricula Competencies. The new curricula competencies address HIMR recommendation #3: "Increase the opportunities for specialization across all levels of the HIM academic spectrum through curricula revision, while retaining a broad foundation in HIM and analytics."
The draft competencies were released in June 2018 with an open comment period that closed on September 14. The CEE Curricula Workgroup analyzed the feedback to revise and finalize the draft competencies. The CEE approved the final 2018 HIM Curricula Competencies in December and they were shared with CAHIIM and CCHIIM to pursue next steps under the recommendation.

ONC Happenings in Health IT
In April 2018, ONC launched a new consumer-facing
interactive online resource, the Guide to Getting & Using Your Health Records, to improve patients’ access to their electronic health information. According to recent data, almost half of individuals nationwide were not offered access to their health information by a health care provider or insurer. The guide was developed in partnership with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and shows patients, parents, and caregivers how obtain a copy of their or a loved one’s health record, check it for accuracy, and use it to better manage their health and their care.

Attorney General Becerra to Hold Public Forums on California Consumer Privacy Act as Part of Rulemaking Process
Office of the Attorney General
On June 28, 2018, Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 375, now known as the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018. The CCPA grants consumers new rights with respect to the collection of their personal information: a consumer can request that a business disclose what information it collects about the consumer, where it collected the information from, and with whom it has shared the information. Consumers may also request that their personal information be deleted and can opt-out of the sale of their personal information. Businesses are prohibited from discriminating against consumers for exercising their rights under the CCPA.
Participate in Public Forums
The California Attorney General’s Office will hold public forums as part of the CCPA rulemaking process. All members of the public are invited to participate and can RSVP to any of the forums on the RSVP form. Interested persons can also submit comments via email or by mail to the California Department of Justice, ATTN: Privacy Regulations Coordinator, 300 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90013. Consumer Health Information is Increasingly at Risk, Groups Tell Congress
Greg Slabodkin; Feb 27 2019
Americans are facing a growing threat to their privacy as their online activities are closely monitored and used to reveal increasingly personal information, including potential details about their state of health.
Sensitive information and changes in daily habits are tracked and sold to third party data mining companies and marketers, according to Brandi Collins-Dexter, a senior campaign director at the Color of Change, the nation’s largest online civil rights organization.
“Internet Service Providers and third party analytics partners can track the times when someone goes online, the sites visited and the physical location,” testified Collins-Dexter on Tuesday before a House subcommittee hearing. “Visits to a doctor’s website or to a prescription refill page could allow the ISP, platform or a data broker partner to infer someone in the household has a specific medical condition.”
