Last week, ACPE successfully conducted its first
virtual member meeting. Thank you to the over 300 folks who joined us. Thanks to the ACPE staff who made it all happen, and makes it happen all the time! So, a big "thank you" to Marc Medwed, John Roch, Jasmine Okafor, Tiffany Kindred, Ruth McPhail Ubaldo, Sheilah Hawk, Kimberly Yates, Katherine Higgins, Jennifer Rochner, Brandy Thompson, Carl Jones-Reid, Terry Izaguirre, and Trace Haythorn. They continue to diligently support our mission while working remotely during the pandemic.
This week, ACPE will experience another exciting week filled with more firsts and celebrations. After

months of work and hundreds of hours of effort to improve the quality of the tools that support our mission, this week the staff will launch a new Salesforce database, a redesigned website, and improved
SharePoint sites. The new tools are the result of their continuous effort to address concerns and suggestions from us, while being mindful of reducing our overall costs.

ACPE has used the same database since the mid-1990s. On August 5, 2020, ACPE will launch Nimble AMS built on Salesforce. Following ACPE's launch of SharePoint a few years ago, the latest software upgrades demonstrate ACPE's commitment to securing the best and most affordable resources for its members and students. With the power of SharePoint and Salesforce, ACPE continues to set the standard for spiritual care and education.

#ACPEproud, August 3-7, 2020, is a week-long celebration, education, and advocacy event to encourage support of clinical pastoral education, spiritually integrated psychotherapy, and the spiritual care community. ACPE is proud of our students, graduates, and members.
#ACPEproud will highlight the meaningful ways our members and accredited centers heal, strengthen, and transform people and communities in the US and across the globe.
During the week, ACPE will recognize our newly certified members and newly accredited centers, celebrate our awardees, install a new board chair, and honor our members who died during the last year. Throughout the campaign, ACPE will provide tools for you to share with your institutions and communities about the positive effects of spiritual care for patients and society.
Most of the events are pre-recorded and will be distributed via the web, email, and social media. The two webinars are complimentary but do require registration. The webinars will be recorded if you cannot attend during the scheduled time.

The goal of the project is to strengthen chaplaincy degree programs at schools across the country. Beginning with the redesign of courses within theological schools, we can start to think on a pedagogical level about transforming the ways in which chaplains are trained and spiritual care is provided.
If you are a theological educator teaching a course on chaplaincy and/or spiritual care, you are invited to join the project!
- The deadline to apply is September 1, 2020.
- Participating educators will receive a stipend to support their work.

The Luce COVID-19 Microgrants are an opportunity for ACPE programs that meet the criteria to apply for funds to support responses to the Covid pandemic.

As ACPE is in the process of transitioning to a new database, quarterly billing for accreditation fees for the period 4/1/2020 to 6/30/2020 will be delayed by one month. We expect to send the invoices out by August 15, 2020. This will not change any other quarterly billing.

The good work of ACPE is accomplished by dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, passion, and talent to the important work of the organization. The international healing and transformational work of ACPE reaches far and wide. With the new governance structure, the association has been able to broaden its reach of spiritual care and education.
The
Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is committed to continuing to build a strong, diverse leadership structure in the organization. The LDC works with commission and committee chairs to match the gifts of ACPE members with organizational needs. As you know, ACPE's leadership structure supports advocacy work, strengthens our organizational connections here and around the world, attends to the professional development and well-being of its members, ensures our work is ethically and financially responsible, and oversees robust certification and accreditation processes. The Leadership Development Committee is committed to ensuring this vital work is seamless and ongoing.

As we celebrate #ACPEproud week, it reminds me of a kind of homecoming. For so many of our members, ACPE is the home where they met their truest self, where we grew into a fuller and richer sense of self, of meaning, of identity, of authority, of purpose. And so for reflection this week, we offer this poem from Mary Oliver:
Coming Home

When we are driving in the dark,
on the long road to Provincetown,
when we are weary,
when the buildings and the scrub pines lose their familiar look,
I imagine us rising from the speeding car.
I imagine us seeing everything from another place--
the top of one of the pale dunes, or the deep and nameless
fields of the sea.
And what we see is a world that cannot cherish us,
but which we cherish.
And what we see is our life moving like that
along the dark edges of everything,
headlights sweeping the blackness,
believing in a thousand fragile and unprovable things.

Last Friday, our Advocacy Committee and Anti-Bias Task Force launched "8:46." If you missed it, you can catch the
first session here. Much of this work is like much of CPE: we must go deep within. The folks at Mindful Leader are also asking questions and inviting reflection about the practices of anti-racism. In a recent article, they offer the following questions for meditation practice: What do you want to return to? What do you want to return as? What is stopping you? These questions also seem vital to our celebration of #ACPEProud. Here's a link to the full article:

Transfiguration of the Lord (Orthodox Christianity)
The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event reported by the Synoptic Gospels in which Jesus was transfigured upon a mountain (Matthew 17:1-6, Mark 9:1-8, Luke 9:28-36). Jesus becomes radiant, speaks with Moses and Elijah, and is called "Son" by God. The transfiguration associated Jesus with the two preeminent figures of Judaism: Moses and Elijah. It also supports his identity as the Son of God.
August 10
Krishna Janmashtami (Hinduism)
This day celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar, or incarnation, of Vishnu. Upon his birth, his life was threatened by his uncle, King Kansa, who believed that Krishna was fated to kill him. Kansa ordered that Krishna be brought to him, but the baby was miraculously carried away to a safe hiding place. Hindus celebrate this day with a large feast. Sweets are given to children, and a clay statue of Krishna is worshipped.

ACPE is the premier, Department of Education recognized, organization that provides the highest quality CPE programs for spiritual care professionals of any faith and in any setting. We do this through a rigorous accreditation and certification process for centers and educators that provide CPE.
