FORMAN'S TOP 20
New Trier Green Holds on to Top Spot in Forman’s December Rankings
Yes, New Trier Green is human. They were finally brought back to ice in early-December, when arch-rival Loyola Gold handed the Trevians their first loss of the season, 2-0 in Wilmette. The setback, though, came after Green had won its first 30 games of the season. The Ramblers led 1-0 after the first period, then scored an insurance tally in the third, as Gold rolled into the Christmas break with wins in 9 of their past 10 games, including W’s over York (twice), Green, Saint Viator, Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South during that stretch.
1. New Trier Green
2. Loyola Gold
3. Glenbrook North
4. Saint Viator
5.St. Ignatius
6. Providence Catholic
7. Stevenson
8. York
9. Benet Academy
10. Carmel Catholic
FORMAN'S VARSITY SPOTLIGHTS
Zack Lupori Leads Glenbard's Drive Back to the United Center
Senior Zach Lupori is the only three-year varsity player for co-op Glenbard and an offensive threat every time he steps on the ice. He leads the team with 26 goals, 13 assists in 22 games played – and is an Illinois West stats leader too, of course. “Hockey is practically in my blood,” said Lupori, 17, a right-handed shooting forward who attends Glenbard West High School and is commonly called ‘Lupo.’
Wolfpack Watch: Saint Ignatius Driven To Shine in Catholic League, State Tournament
He’s a four-year varsity forward for Saint Ignatius who has tallied 19 goals, including 4 game-winners, in his first 14 Chicago Catholic Hockey League games this season, along with 6 assists. Pat Doyle is tied for the league-lead in points and leads in goals. Doyle, an assistant captain, “is a dynamic play-maker,” said Saint Ignatius head coach Matt Smith. Doyle was the Most Outstanding Player in the Catholic League last season … and skating the same path this season.
New Trier Must Regroup From Average December To Repeat As State Champions
New Trier has been a dominant force in Metro Girls all season, but they stumbled into the winter break 2-2-1 in their final 5 games. Still, the Trevians are 10-2-1 with a league-leading 106 goals-for and only 21 goals-against. Will the Trevians repeat as state champions, as the program celebrates its 20th year? That’s a safe bet.
FORMAN'S JV SPOTLIGHT
Nicolas Delia, Notre Dame College Prep
Despite being a freshman, Nicolas Delia is focused on a playoff run this season for Notre Dame College Prep. “My goal is to help my team make a long run in the state playoffs,” said Delia, 15, a Chicago resident who last season played for the Niles Rangers and also has played youth hockey in the past for the Skokie Flyers. “This season is off to a strong start and I feel that I have grown as a team leader, but have also learned many things about the game from my older teammates.

Scholastic Hockey League
By Gary Larsen - Glenbrook North coach Evan Poulakidas always knew he had a tough competitor in defenseman Tim Burke, but after the Spartans lost their state semifinal game to eventual state champion Loyola Academy last year, Burke showed him something more. “His face in the locker room told me everything you needed to know about him as a Spartan,” Poulakidas said. “He took it tremendously hard and I think it resonated with the entire team. When you see one of your leaders in that much pain, you realize how important the team succeeding meant to him.”
5 HOCKEY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
As we head toward the New Year and find time to watch the World Junior Championships, it’s great time to reflect on the initial phase of the season, look forward, and set goals. Here are 5 New Year’s resolutions for the Hockey player in your life, aimed at making the next phase of the season as good as it can be:

1. SET SOME GOALS FOR NEXT PHASE OF THE SEASON, AND YEAR AHEAD.
Where do you want to be in a month? 6 weeks? A year? Reflect on how far you’ve come and where you want the next year to take you. Make sure to write down these goals and keep them nearby for reference, to track them, and to amend them depending on how the next phase of this season and the next year evolve. You’ll be shocked to see how far you can come. Make them SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant/rewarding, and Time-bound/trackable.

2. TRY SOMETHING NEW TO CHALLENGE YOUR BODY.
While it’s tempting to spend all your time on the ice, investing some time in a sport that complements your skill training can have huge benefits, physically and mentally. Yoga is fantastic for flexibility, balance, and strength while swimming builds endurance, boosts circulation, and is great cardio training. Both these sports also challenge and build your ability to focus and be mindful. Not into these? Martial arts, soccer, lacrosse, and tennis are also great options for hockey players.
