Mission trip fundraiser
They're off to Guatemala!
Remember how much fun we had at the Hoedown last year raising money to send the diocesan youth off to Mexico? Well, this year they've set their sights on Guatemala!

Our Christ Church event is one of several across the diocese   supporting the youth as they raise funds for their Mission Trip to Guatemala This fun-filled evening will feature food from five different countries, music, dancing, a silent auction, a photo booth, and launching hot air balloons! This adventure takes off Saturday, April 21 from Christ Church at 5:00 p.m. An adult "boarding pass" is $50; junior pass (3-13) is $20 - all proceeds go to the youth. Tickets remain on sale through Thursday, April 19; don't miss your chance to be part of this amazing journey.

Interested in learning more about the Episcopal church, need a refresher course on what being an Episcopalian is all about? When was the Episcopal Church founded?  Who is welcome at communion?  Do I have to kneel?

Join us April 22, May 6 and 13 for Christ Church 101 - The What, When, Why and How of being an Episcopalian. This informative series will answer all of your burning Episcopal questions and prepare you for Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori's visit here on June 3rd.

Middle School Mission Trip

Summer mission trip
middle school youth
This summer diocesan middle school youth (entering 7th and exiting 9th grade) will participate in a mission trip in downtown Los Angeles, July 11-14.

Living firsthand among the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of urban life is an irreplaceable experience. Together we will learn about a city populated by the poor, marginalized, and too often invisible people. Our work will include food preparation, food service, clothing sorting, meal distribution, and more. We will be integrated into a variety of hands-on ministry opportunities to ensure that your time is spent supplying substantive help in Downtown Los Angeles. You will walk with angels.

Tour logistics are being coordinated with City Service Mission (CSM). CSM has been providing services in cities around the US for over 30 years. Their experience guarantees a comprehensive, safe, and productive short-term mission trip.

The application process for this trip is now open. Click here for details and to apply. Applications will close on April 23.

Beth Beall @ Adult Forum
Vida Joven de Mexico
Christ Church supports Vida Joven in a variety of ways throughout the year. The main fundraiser, hosted by the Service Ministry team, is the Vida Joven Cindo de Mayo dinner. Please join us at Sunday forum, April 29 to welcome Beth Beall, Executive Director of Vida Joven. If you're not familiar with Vida Joven or would just like an update on what's happening with this ministry, you'll want to come and be inspired. Beth's commitment and passion for the children at Vida Joven is infectious - you'll want to catch this "bug."

Baptisms on Pentecost
People of all ages welcome

The sacrament of beginnings
If you or a member of your family is interested in being baptized, May 20 is the next special feast day on which we celebrate baptisms.  Baptism is initiation. When you are baptized, it means that you belong to something. It is your entry into belonging to the community of the church through a ritual immersion in water and the invocation of the Trinity. Baptism marks the beginning of the Christian life by water and the Holy Spirit. For more information, contact the parish office by email or call (619) 435-4561.

Viva Vida Joven
Cinco de Mayo - May 5
Mexican fiesta
Did you know that a gift of $35 provides one day of nutritious food to all the Vida Joven kids. Every day at the orphanage, the children eat three big meals and two snacks.

There are so many ways to support
Vida Joven de Mexico, a loving orphanage for children in nearby Tijuana.  One easy, fun and delicious way is to attend our  annual Mexican fiesta on Saturday, May 5  which benefits the amazing work done at Vida Joven.  Tickets are just $10 and include a delicious Mexican meal; margaritas will be available for an extra donation.

Tickets will be on sale  in the courtyard  after both services Sunday  April 22 and April 29.  This year we're holding the fiesta outside in our beautiful courtyard so there's lots of room for everyone. Invite your friends!

ECS Diaper Drive

Drop your diaper donations in the playpen in the courtyard May 6 and May 13. All sizes are welcome -- newborn to toddler pull-ups!

Deann Rios of ECS will be with us on Sunday, May 13 to highlight the amazing programs offered by ECS. You may learn more at ecscalifornia.org.
