  • From the Selectman's Office- On January 17th, following the Annual Town Meeting, there will be a hearing to provide information on a proposed sidewalk project for Kent No vote, just information and Q & A.
  • From Kent Social Services - Kent Social Services is now accepting appointments for the Energy Assistance Program. This is a winter heating assistance program with specific income and asset requirements for participation. Maximum gross income guidelines are as follows: household size 1/$35,116; 2/$45,920; 3/$56,725; 4/$67,530. To determine if your household qualifies for this program or to schedule an appointment, contact Leah Pullaro, Kent Social Services 860-927-1586

  • Office is closed from 12:30a.m. – 1:00p.m. for lunch. All appointments should be made in advance
  • Kent Food Bank is in need of volunteers! Help is needed during food bank distribution Fridays, 9:00a.m. - Noon. Also volunteers are needed to pick-up donated bakery items at Big Y in New Milford, Fridays at 9:00a.m. and deliver them to the Kent Food Bank. If interested, please contact Kent Social Services 860-927-1586.

  • The roads of Kent *Kenico Road is basically complete until spring. Final touches will have to wait until then. *After many accidents and near misses I have succeeded in getting the State to make the intersection of SK Rd/Bulls Bridge Rd & Camps Flat Rd a 4 way stop. This should happen in a month.(Hoping soon)
Western CT Clean Air Action
Cricket Valley update # 6
Western Connecticut Clean Air Action (WCCAA) is pleased to report that a new air quality monitoring station has been installed at Kent School. This sophisticated device will soon begin measuring three major air pollutants associated with natural gas combustion. Several surrounding towns plan to install similar devices, which, together with the Kent School station, will form a regional air quality monitoring network. WCCAA is working on the best means for sharing the air quality data. Many thanks to all who continue to support this project! Please look for upcoming press coverage for more details. Park & Recreation
Figure Skating Lessons: Session II: Meets Saturdays, January 5, 12, 19, 26, 2019 with instructor Marika Coolbeth. Cost is $44. Lessons for beginning students, 7-7:30 a.m.; intermediate level and above meet 7:30-8 a.m. Students registered for classes (only) also may
skate during the 30 minutes opposite their lesson time.
Session III: February 2, 9, 16, 23, 2019; same schedule as above with instructor Marika Coolbeth. Cost is $44. Pre-register by January 26. There are no make-up dates for
cancellations; students may skate at the P&R open skate at Kent and South Kent Schools during holiday/winter skating without charge.
Students must wear gloves or mittens, a hat and leather skates, either figure or hockey. Registration should be returned to Park and Recreation (in the box at KCS or Town Hall) or mailed to P.O. Box 678, Kent, CT 06757. Questions: call 860-927-1003.
Learn to Play Ultimate Frisbee with the Hotchkiss School Ultimate Team Sunday, Jan. 9, 2019, 2-4 p.m. Program is open to grades 7-12. Ultimate combines elements of basketball,football and soccer and is easy to learn and enjoy. The program will meet at the Hotchkiss

Youth Gymnastics: Gymnastics for ages 7-12 (open to Kent residents) will be offered through Sharon Parks & Rec. Saturdays, January 12, 19, 26 and February 2, 9, 23, 1-2 p.m. at Sharon Center School, Sharon. The cost is $65. To register, visit sharonparksandrecreation.org and print

Adult Men’s League Basketball: Kent Park and Recreation sponsors the program Wednesday

Commission vacancy: The Kent Park and Recreation Commission has an opening for a commission member to fill a three-year seat The commission meets the third Monday of the month (mostly), 7 p.m., Kent Town Hall. The commission is charged with oversight of the

Coffee For the Crew
Most people agree that our road crew is one of the best in the area. Rick, Peter, Mike, Jerry, TJ and John do a great job keeping our roads and sidewalks safe in the winter. I again have set up an account at Kent Coffee & Chocolate for us to show our appreciation by buying them coffee. Please consider adding to the fund. The guys truly appreciate it.
Senior Activities
Art Group: meets Thursday mornings, 9:30-noon, Kent Senior Center, 16 Swifts Lane. Seniors are invited to join. Bring your own projects and supplies. There is no cost.
Friday Senior Lunch: Please note the program is on winter break until March 22.
Holiday luncheons: January 9 New Year’s Luncheon: The meal, roast beef au jus, twice baked potato, peas and mushrooms and éclair, will be served at 12:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $4/person. Reservations are required by calling 860-927-2055 by January 4. Both luncheons are served at the Kent Senior Center, 16 Swifts Lane.

Blood Pressure Screening: The New Milford Visiting Nurse Association holds monthly blood pressure screenings for Kent seniors on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Kent Senior Center, Swifts Lane. This service is offered free, and no appointment is necessary.
