From the Director's Desk
The lazy days of summer are gone! The hustle and bustle of school and fall activities are underway. Our beautiful town of Nazareth is beginning to show early signs of autumn.
But what a fun summer we had! The library's Summer Reading Program, "Build a Better World" was a huge success.
Over 440 children from Nazareth and the surrounding communities participated. For every 240 minutes the children read, they completed a reading level and received a reward. Each child was challenged to complete three levels or to read 720 minutes this summer. 298 of the children who participated completed level 1, 265 children completed level 2, and 182 children complete all 3 levels of the reading program reaching the goal of reading 720 minutes.
All of the children registered for the Summer Reading Program read a total of 325,440 minutes during the 8 week program. Wow, that's a lot of reading!
In addition to the reading challenge,
the library offered over 51 programs for the children over the 8 week period. These programs included art classes, STEAM workshops, story times, a visit from the Da Vinci Center and the Lehigh Valley Zoo, and book discussions just to name a few. 611 children and 297 adults attended these summer programs.
Our adult patrons joined in the fun of reading this summer too!
Over 100 adults participated in the adult Summer Reading Program. The adults enjoyed participating in several book discussions, a painting party, and the music of Dave Deluca.
The success of the summer Reading Program is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our librarians. They spent countless hours preparing and running the Summer Reading Program. The creativity and dedication of the Nazareth librarians to our community is greatly appreciated. A big thank you to all them for their outstanding work.
See you at the Library!

Library Director, Information Conductor, and Community Ambassador

Kevin Hopf, serves the Nazareth Library as a Page. Kevin is a junior at Nazareth Area High School. He joined the library staff in the spring of 2017. In Kevin's spare time he enjoys practicing object manipulation, flow arts (dance, juggling, and free spinning), and card tricks. Kevin also designs board games and likes playing video games.
Kevin recommends Daniel Quinn's Ishmael as a must read. "Unquestionably one of the best books I ever read. Quinn uses large amounts of dialogue with a sprinkling of fiction to examine very real truths about mankind and how we view the rest of the world," says Kevin. "This book helps sweep away myths that we thought were truths, replacing them with easy-to-understand facts."
