2017 Home Sales in South Carolina reached a new record

According to a recent story posted in the Post & Courier, a robust job market and higher incomes in a booming economy led more people across South Carolina than ever before to lay out money last year for what is usually the biggest purchase of their lives - a house.

Real estate transactions across the Palmetto State climbed 4.5 percent as 83,570 homes changed hands in 2017 throughout the state, according to the Columbia-based S.C. Realtors Association.

The median sales price for housing has jumped nearly 24 percent statewide over the past five years and about 20.5 percent in the Myrtle Beach area since 2013.

Garden City Beach Home Prices

The chart below shows the average sales price of property in Garden City Beach during the month of January 2018 compared to the same month as last year. The average single-family home price was down 22.9 percent at $309,500, while the average townhouse/condo price was down 4.7% at 185,925.

Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet

Additionally, according to data made available by the Coastal Carolina Association of REALTORS, the average single-family home sale price was up .6% at $284,206 and the average townhouse/condo sales price was up 18.4% at 118,065.

Likewise, the average single-family home sale price was up 5.8 percent at $293,706 and the average townhouse/condo sale price was up 4.6% at $156,383. All statistics are complied from sales during the month of January 2018 compared to the same month the previous year.

One of the oldest courses in Myrtle Beach golf market under contract to home builder

Conway Golf Club's days as a golf course and country club appear to be numbered.

The course is under contract to housing developer Beverly Homes, according to business owner Randy Beverly, and is slated to become a housing development if the contract reaches a closing.

The nine-hole course that includes a pool and pair of tennis courts is one of the oldest golf courses on the Grand Strand and was for decades a vibrant part of the social life in Conway.
