FAR NEWS CORNER
FAR Chocolate Bank Project

Ayo! has launched its Chocolate Bank Project for 2018. This amazing initiative collects and then delivers chocolates and other Christmas sweets to children who live in poverty. This year the Ayo! and FAR team plans to visit daycares in 14 villages   - some of which have the coldest conditions in Armenia - to bring gifts of chocolate and other sweets, and to hold a celebration for children in need. Ayo! is also raising money to provide selected daycares with new bedding, including warm blankets and pillows, which will help them through the brutal winter. While the daycares generally have appropriate conditions for the children, they have a vital and urgent need for new bedding. Ayo! will be collecting chocolates, candies and cookies at FAR's Yerevan until December 25th . Donations online will be collected until January 6th.

Following Badarak
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout the centuries, the pomegranate has been weaved into Armenian architecture, cuisine, art, manuscripts, literature and liturgical vestments. It represents life, fertility, and abundance.
Pomegranates will be blessed immediately after Badarak. They will be distributed to the faithful afterwards. Everyone is invited to participate in this beautiful service.

A Week of Re-Introductions

One of the wonderful things about the Christmas season is the way it re-introduces us to such interesting people. And it's not limited to friends and family: some of the most memorable re-introductions come from the surrounding culture. Who can suppress a warm smile at their first yearly sighting of Santa, Rudolph, and the elves? Or at the Grinch, and the whole Peanuts gang?

But the church, too, is actively bringing some memorable people to our attention in the run-up to Christmas. It shares these vivid personalities with us through the feast days that occupy the weeks in the latter half of Advent.

We meet King David, poet and warrior; James, the apostle called the "Brother of the Lord"; Stephen, the first deacon of the church and its first martyr; Peter and Paul; and the brothers James and John. These are the stories the church re-introduces to us through the feasts of this week.

Somehow, getting to know these figures prepares us for that greatest re-introduction of all: when we will once more welcome the infant Jesus into our hearts and lives.

DIOCESAN AND OTHER NEWS

A Joyous Christmas Concert Marks 60 Years of the Gomidas Choir

Some 500 people crowded into a festively-adorned St. Vartan Cathedral on Saturday evening, December 15, to celebrate the blessings of Christmas-and to honor a milestone in the history for New York's Gomidas Choir.

The evening went forward under the auspices of the Eastern Diocese, with its Primate, the Very Reverend Fr. Daniel Findikyan, presiding.

The concert of Christmas music-mixed with selections by the choir's namesake, Gomidas Vartabed-was beautifully rendered by the singers of the Gomidas Choir, under the direction of Kris Kalfayan, to mark the 60th anniversary of the distinguished vocal ensemble.

24 A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 But he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28 "You are those who have stood by me in my trials; 29 and I confer on you, just as my Father has conferred on me, a kingdom, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
