Dear Saint Rose Families,

Fr. David Kidd greeted many of us this morning with a "Happy 2nd Day of Lent!"  While we spend a lot of time preparing for Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter, it is the days in between when we are challenged to live our Lenten promise.  Yesterday, when Fr. Kidd asked our students how many played Fortnite, many hands went up.  He then asked if Fortnite would lead us to become saints. There was a resounding 'no' from the students.  He then challenged the students to give up Fortnite, social media, tv, or something else during Lent in order that they might have more time to dedicate to their faith.  It was a good reminder that we don't just give something up at Lent, but that we should look to do more within our faith and relationship with God.

I hope that you have a great Lent!

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

Lost & Found

We have a huge amount of lost and found on display in the preschool hall.

Please stop in and take a look!

Any unclaimed items will be donated.

Thank you

LENT COLLECTION:   SHOES, SOCKS, MONEY

As we enter Lent, one of the practices that we emphasize is Almsgiving.  We recall Jesus' words to his disciples at the Last Supper.  "After Jesus had washed their feet, He said to them:  'Do you understand what I just did for you?  If I washed your feet, then you must wash each other's feet.  As I have done, so you must do.' "

Saint Louis is located in East Toledo and provides low-income and homeless people with daily meals, clothing, and household goods.   Saint Louis Helping Hands is sponsored by the Diocese of Toledo Office of Catholic Charities.

For five years Saint Louis has hosted a Back to School Event in August for children to receive new socks and shoes.  During the event, volunteers wash the feet of the children, dry them, and fit them with new socks and shoes.

Saint Rose School will be collecting new shoes, new socks, and money to help provide for this event.   The new shoes do not have to be top-of-the-line brand name shoes.  Please see the adjacent photo.  The organizer of the event sent the photo to show that Walmart often has shoes reasonably priced, and they would be appreciated.

Perhaps your child could do extra chores around the house to help "earn" some of the money that would be used to purchase new shoes or new socks.  Shoes and socks are needed for children ages 3 through grade 8 -- a vast array of sizes.   Cash donations at school will be used to purchase new shoes.

Thank you for your generosity.

Congratulations to Saint Rose fifth grader, Jack Schoen!

Jack will be participating in the state-level competition of the National Geography Bee on March 29
th.  After winning the Saint Rose School competition in January, Jack took a qualifying exam for entry into the state competition.  He is one of 100 students selected from across Ohio to compete in the state level of the Geography Bee.

Way to go, Jack!

Kroger Community Rewards    -  Time to print your Rewards Balance

It is time to print your Kroger Community Rewards balance.  Please send the print-out to the Saint Rose School office to the attention of Alison Ray-Kobler.  Alternatively, you can send a print-out of your earnings to Alison at [email protected] To ensure that we have the most up to date information on file, please also write the name of the St. Rose child/family who should receive the credit for your earnings (if applicable).  The only way we are able to assign the Kroger Community Rewards to a specific student account is by having the participants print and submit their Kroger Community Rewards donation amount.

Please note:  Kroger recently upgraded their Community Rewards system, and as a result, St. Rose has a new account number - (CN971).  Don't worry - the previous number will continue to be associated with St. Rose, but it will not be visible to new members when enrolling.  For those existing members, your account may already reflect the new number - CN971.  If you have questions, you can reach out to Alison at the email address above.

CYO Girls Basketball

The 8th grade girls basketball season wrapped up last week with Saint Rose hosting the final for the Diocesan Tournament. The final was All Saints winning over Christ the King 44-26. Katie Hoyt, Saint Rose 8th Grader, was blessed to play this year with All Saints after Mrs. Sandvik worked with the Diocese and both parishes to allow her to play basketball again. Coach Hunt and Ellis along with the girls made it a wonderful season!
Although the team came in 2nd against Christ the King in the Super tournament a few weeks ago, last weekend was a big win.

Congratulations Katie and teammates!

Patriotism Essay Winners

Congratulations again to 8th Grader Katie Hoyt! Katie is this year's Saint Rose winner for the Perrysburg Exchange Club's Patriotism Essay Contest. Katie, along with three other students from Perrysburg Middle School, shared essays with their families and the Exchange Club at the winner's banquet last week. Essays are in this week's Perrysburg Messenger Journal.   CLICK HERE and scroll to page 9 to read.

Job Well Done Katie!

Music Man Jr.  April 5, 6, & 7

Volunteers Needed for Spring Musical
Our spring musical is fast approaching and we are looking for 2 available, hardworking parents to oversee tech crew. We need someone that will be able to attend rehearsals from March 18-21 and April 1-4, as well as each performance. Responsibilities include: assisting tech crew with their tasks (lights, music, cues, props, etc.) until they get comfortable with it, keeping tech crew focused and on track, and acting as a backstage support person during shows. Please contact Rebecca Schmidt ( [email protected]) for more information.

Sponsors for Program
We are currently inviting patrons to sponsor our musical. Money collected will be used to defer the costs of scripts, costumes, set materials, props, etc. As a sponsor, you can have an ad in the program or send a message to a member of the cast or crew of The Music Man, Jr.

The sponsor categories are as follows:

Tutoring Opportunities

Middle School Tutoring Volunteers
Earlier this year 8th grade students ran a project where they tutored  younger Saint Rose students after school from 3:30-4:15.  This was well received and in meeting with 8th grade students they mentioned the desire to continue the tutoring.  Here is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students to tutor and help younger Saint Rose students with their basic studies.

If your 7th or 8th grader is interested in tutoring, please CLICK HERE to sign up

After School Tutoring for grades K-6
