"And it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!"

Having now experienced the Advent and beginning of the Christmas Season at the Beach, I can say that Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church does possess the knowledge and truly knows how to keep Christmas well.

Advent led us steadily with families around the Advent Wreath, choirs sounding brilliant notes, concluding with three beautiful services on Christmas Eve where children told the beloved story with unrestrained enthusiasm and remarkable accuracy, organ, soloists and choirs lifted our spirits to new heights, and we managed to proclaim the good news both in inspiring silence as with joyful candles flickering in a festive sanctuary. And throughout the month of December, we were able to share our blessings by hosting a much-appreciated Toyland, gifts for the Valentine House Angel Tree, and putting on an unparalleled holiday feast on Christmas Day.

It would be impossible to name all the people who made the message of the season come alive with so much integrity and love. Now we continue to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas by echoing some of our beloved carols at a service of Lessons and Carols on December 30th and concluding with the splendid Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th.

The peace, joy and love of the season surround you these days!

Children and Communion

Pastor Osy will be glad to meet with any children who could benefit from some instruction about The Lord's Supper in preparation for the communion service next week (January 6, 2019) during our Sunday School recess.

Noisy Offering

This Sunday will be our last Noisy Offering for 2018.  All  loose change deposited in the metal container goes to Cents-Ability - to support ministries that relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

Cents-Ability is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty. We invite every member - all ages - to contribute a few cents this Sunday. This simple act is an expression of thanks for what we have received. It is also a commitment to share with others in response to Jesus' command "You give them something to eat." Let us end 2018 with "a joyful noise unto the Lord."

Year End Giving

There are still a few days left to make gifts to support Christ's work through the church in 2018. All 2018 gifts must be received in the church office by December 31 in order to be recorded this year on your giving statement for tax-deduction purposes.

The Session is very grateful to receive any and all gifts this past year.   Your offerings of your time, of your God-given talents, and of your money, help support all that we do at PPPC. Together, we are the Body of Christ.  When we are giving, we are being the faithful people God calls us to be.

Please contact Donna Ferry in the church office to find out more about giving options, especially donations of appreciated stock. Thank you for your ongoing generosity!

2019 Offering Envelopes

The 2019 offering envelope boxes with your name on them are now available in the Narthex to pick up.  Please feel free to pick up a friend's box if you know they won't make it to church to pick it up.  Also, if you do not find a box and wish to receive one, write your name on the pad or contact Donna in the office at [email protected].

Using your numbered envelopes makes the counters' jobs easier and ensures proper contribution credit.  Please note, your assigned envelope number may have changed.
These Days Devotional

These Days Devotional Booklets for January through March are now available in the Narthex. The price of the These Days is $6. We all have our hopes and expectations for the year that is ahead of us.  What better way to begin the New Year than seeking  guidance, wisdom and encouragement each day.
Challenged and Sustained by Faith

As we approach the end of the year and plans are put in place for 2019, we are encouraged by the responses to Challenged and Sustained by Faith. We have received 82 pledge cards for a total of anticipated contributions of $196,026. If you are among the 14 members who pledged last year but have not done so yet, help us to lay a strong fiscal foundation for what promises to be a significant year in our church's life. Only days left!

New Beginning's Assessment

The next three months will find leaders of our congregation engaged in a period of Deep Discernment as all the ideas generated in our small group discussions during 2018 will be considered to create a "big-picture" decision about what we believe God is calling us to do and be into the future.

Three meetings are scheduled for January 6, February 3 and March 3 immediately following our monthly Communion Brunches. New Beginnings Committee Members, Small Group Leaders, and interested Elders and Deacons are invited to be part of these discussions. Please let Jim McGuire know that you plan to be in attendance so appropriate preparations can be made. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will be actively leading us in this important stage of the process.
Sanctuary Heating Update

You will be happy to learn that contributions towards the replacement of the sanctuary heating units continue to come in. That means that at this point only $2,000 will be required from our Emergency Fund to meet this ill-timed expense. From all us who enjoy a warm place to worship: THANKS YOU!

Church Organizational Leaders

Information for the Annual Reports is due by Friday, January 11, 2019. A concise overview of last years highlights will be appreciated. Also, if your organization maintains a separate treasury or bank account, these reports must include a financial reporting. Reports can be emailed directly to Kim Gaydos at [email protected]. Call or email the Church office if you would like a digital version of the 2017 report. Reports will be ready for the congregation on Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Choir Rehearsals

The Chancel Choir will resume rehearsals on January 3 and the Choral Bells will begin again on January 7.  We are always grateful to all our choirs for their dedication and hardwork throughout the year but especially each December we are reminded what a blessing they are to our congregation!

If you have been considering joining one of these groups, January would be the perfect time!
