The latest coastal news, events and more from the Barataria and Terrebonne Basins...

Closing out 2018, and looking forward to 2019!
We know you share our concern for this region's future, and we thank you for your past support!

Although we have faced many challenges-- and opportunities-- since ROR began in 2000, our mission remains the same.

Working in the Barataria and Terrebonne basins, ROR focuses daily on implementing restoration solutions for the region, including projects such as freshwater and sediment diversions, barrier islands, shoreline restoration and marsh creation. Our work moving forward will reflect the continued sense of urgency to implement the State's 2017 Coastal Master Plan.

We know you share our concern for this region's future, and we thank you for your past generosity. Your support and participation is critical to our efforts-- please stand with us again to demand comprehensive restoration for the Barataria and Terrebonne basins before retreat is our only solution.

ICYMI: NFWF commits more coastal funds to Terrebonne Basin
NFWF also funded the second phase of the $200 million+ Caminada Headlands project protecting Port Fourchon and the Barataria Basin

WASHINGTON, D.C. - This fall, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced the award of over $280 million from its Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund (GEBF) to 21 new projects in the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas. Developed in consultation with state and federal resource agencies, the projects are designed to remedy harm and reduce the risk of future harm to natural resources that were affected by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The award included the NFWF Board of Directors' approval of an award of $161.4 million to support restoration of the Terrebonne Basin barrier island system in the state of Louisiana. Specifically, the funding will support restoration and beach nourishment of West Belle Headland, Timbalier and Trinity Islands and allow the state to maintain this important stretch of barrier islands and plan for their sustainability into the future. More information on this project can be found here.

To date, NFWF has awarded more than $625 million to 13 projects in the state of Louisiana. The new project was selected for funding following extensive consultation with the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, FWS and NOAA. Additional information on all GEBF projects in Louisiana can be found here.

The announcement represents the sixth round of awards from the GEBF. With this announcement, NFWF has awarded nearly $1.3 billion dollars, or over half of available funds.
ROR has a great Rendezvous with Coastal Colonels
This year, the annual fund raiser highlighted our friends at #ClosesttotheCoast partner, Nicholls State  University.

Restore or Retreat started the month of November by gathering with great company to celebrate another year  of great coastal efforts at the 3 rd  annual Rendezvous! For this year's theme, we wanted to stick close to "home."

Daily, ROR's advocacy aims to expedite the implementation of large-scale restoration projects in the Barataria and Terrebonne basins, which complements the coastal restoration research, education, and active student engagement our region's bayou-side university offers. In keeping with the coastal theme of the evening, ROR joined celebratory forces with Nicholls State University to acknowledge the college's growing coastal education and community involvement in coastal efforts by sharing Nicholls' motto of "closest to the coast." Read our blog and check out pics from the event here.
