We Are Winning in Beautiful Ways

Dear Resisters,

we are
winning.



At Resist, we have the unique vantage point of bearing witness to incredible feats by organized communities across the country. In spite of the Trump administration's efforts to strip apart thousands of families, erase protections for LGBTQ people, re-institute a ban on Muslims, limit women's rights, reverse environmental policies, embolden racist policies, and steal Indigenous people's lands, frontline communities have fearlessly led the resistance - risking their lives and proclaiming: we are here, we will not stop, and we will win. 

And they are winning in the most beautiful ways.

 
Below are just a fistful of Resist grantee wins in 2018 alone thanks to your support.

Texans United for Families (1) successfully organized to pressure ICE to release a mother and her young daughter Nayely as well as get Nayely the proper medical treatment for her malignant brain tumor.

Homes For All Nashville (2) has helped to keep people in their homes, including a family of seven who were in danger of being evicted.  

Families for Justice as Healing (3) introduced the "Primary Caretakers Bill," which promotes rehab and vocational training for mothers arrested for minor and non-violent crimes as an alternative to prison time. 


Racial Justice Now! (4) changed the Dayton, Ohio district's code of conduct to end zero tolerance policies and won the implementation of restorative justice alternative programs in eight schools.

Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson (5) won four Municipal ID programs in just six months, allowing cities to cross-recognize each other's IDs so that undocumented people can move safely beyond the cities where they reside.

The California Coalition for Women Prisoners (6) fought and organized for three years in solidarity with other groups so that The American Public Health Association could adopt killings by police as a public health issue.

The Amistad Law Project (7) and their comrades successfully reversed the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections' policy that banned books to prisoners programs.


Critical Resistance Oakland (8) in coalition with other Bay area activists organized direct actions, confronted legislators and fought against the largest SWAT-training and militarized police expo over five years - effectively ending it in its current form. 

Masjid-Al-Rabia (9) led the Nation's first LGBTQ Muslim Prison Outreach Program.

CT Students for a Dream (10) helped pass House Bill 5031 after a five-year battle, equalizing access to higher education for undocumented students.

Chicago United For Justice (11) mobilized 300 hundred people and won the fight to stop the closure of National Teachers' Academy, the first case in the country where a school closure was stopped based on racial discrimination. 

While the state of the country might seem dark and dire at times, our grantees see through the darkness and imagine brighter days ahead. With your support, our grantees can continue to push the boundaries of what we deem is possible and come out victorious.

We will not give up and we know you won't either.
