County employee helps save a life
A LUT employee recently responded to a medical emergency at Dairy Creek Park near the Washington County's  Walnut Street Center.
Renus Kelfkens, a project manager with the Engineering and Construction Services Division, was returning from a meeting on Dec. 19. He had just parked in the public parking lot adjacent to the park, when he was approached by a man asking him to call 911.
As he called 911, Kelfkens discovered that the man's friend had collapsed and was not breathing. With support from the Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (WCCCA) operator, Kelfkens performed chest compressions until Hillsboro Police arrived and took over life-saving measures. A city of Hillsboro employee working in the park assisted in the event by guiding emergency responders to the scene.
Kelfkens credits CPR training and the calm WCCCA operator for his response in the life-saving event.
Happy Holidays from Washington County!
