A Note from Sally Sachar
Hello Congregants,
Even as March is meant to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb, the pace of activities here at BJBE will remain intense and exciting throughout this month and into April. BJBE is abuzz and we hope you will come to 1201 and partake in the rich array of programs and services going on here.
First, a round of gratitude to our community for jumping into
Misloach Manot with such enthusiasm and generosity. The relaunch of this wonderful Purim tradition was extremely successful with over 375 bags being delivered to our community (more than a third of our congregation received a basket/cooler). Please note that if you wish to purchase a cooler/basket, we have some available in the office for the price of $15. Each basket includes many treats, including hamentaschen, chips, cookies, GoGosqueez, a magnifying card, jar opener, and much more.
We hope you will plan to take in one or more of the many Purim festivities we have going on at BJBE, starting with the Hamentaschen Making Event tonight and continuing through this week and next - including the Purim Shpiel, Low Sensory Carnival, and Purim Carnival this weekend.
Finally, the Gala (Saturday, April 6) is right around the corner. We know this evening comes fast and furiously after Purim, so you can stay in the giving and festive spirit as you join us at the incredibly fun evening -- BJBE's main fundraiser for the year. Buy tickets
here. You can sing and dance to your favorite show and film tunes from the Box Office to Broadway - tunes from current musical scores as well as the past many decades.
Our Gala will include mouth-watering food from some of the area's most delicious caterers and restaurants, including Catering By Design, City BBQ, Grill House, Hel's Kitchen, Josh's Hot Dogs, Michael's Grill and Salad Bar, Northshore Catering, Pear Tree, Poochies, & Sweet Thing Shop. There will also be wonderful auction items including a week in a Jerusalem apartment or a Park City condo, Liliana outdoor furniture set donated by MilGreen, and of course our famous time with the clergy - a special dinner with Rabbi & Ezra Kedar, a concert with our fabulous Cantor Frost & Cantor Green, or a game night with Rabbi Fenster.
And finally, we are bringing back the bracelet raffle sponsored by Emmis Jewelry (Jenn Dubinsky). For $35 you can buy a wonderful bracelet donated by Emmis, and one of our ticket purchases will receive a beautiful piece of jewelry donated by Shelle Jewelers.
Have a wonderful week!
Sally

SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK
Garden on Mars
is one of the many organizations doing the holy work of rebuilding. BJBE volunteered their time and money at this beautiful organization in the Lower 9th Ward for many years as part of our mission to NOLA; building a chicken coop, building garden boxes, and planting for them.
Garden On Mars is an urban garden project growing fresh food & flowers on vacant lots throughout New Orleans. Their mission is to provide gardening solutions to local residents in order to bring forgotten land back to life, to increase access to fresh food, and to empower residents to sell what they grow to local restaurants and florists.
Social Action Project Collection Ahead of the Purim Celebration
For our Erev Purim Celebration on March 20, our Chai School students organized a social action project to make bagged lunches to support guests at PADS. Over the next two weeks, please bring in individually wrapped chips, cookies, and other shelf-stable snacks and place them in the marked bin in the Tzedakah niche.
