CAC: How long have you been a member of the Cinema Arts Centre?

MJ: I have been a part of the arts community since the late 70’s,

CAC: What first drew you to the Cinema?

MJ: The Cinema Arts Centre has been where I go for entertainment for almost 40 years, since the “sheet on the wall” time.

CAC: Have you seen the Cinema Change over the years, and how has your relationship with the Cinema changed or evolved?
MJ: Change has come in the many years I have attended. From 1 screen to 3 screens; adding new programs including discussions after films, and the ”Preview Club”, what a great addition! And then bringing writers to exchange ideas and also great music at the café. I feel so lucky to live here.

CAC: Why is Membership important to you?

MJ: The community environment, like-minded people, provided a new pool of friends.

CAC: Has film inspired or informed your creative life and work as a painter? If so, how?

MJ: The visual images that film provides is inspiring for an artist. They stay in my head and give me an encyclopedia of images to draw on when I am working, sometimes color and sometimes it is form.

CAC: What else would you like to share with our readers?

MJ: I feel so fortunate to be a part of CAC and the creative community on LI. This includes the Heckscher Museum of Art, Art League of Long Island, Huntington
Arts Council, the many galleries and music venues that provide such a rich environment for residents.

Sponsor Spotlight: bee-ORGANIC | restaurant - juice bar - eco boutique
The support of our in-kind sponsors is so meaningful to the Cinema Arts Centre. We are deeply grateful for contributions of all natural, healthy and delicious foods from bee-ORGANIC for many of our cultivation and fundraising events, such as our 2017 Holiday Brunch.

Bee-ORGANIIC is a family owned juice bar, pescatarian restaurant and eco boutique with a location in Great Neck, and a location on Wall Street right here in Huntington. Like the Cinema Arts Centre, bee-Organic is driven by a mission. The bee-ORGANIC mission is to provide the freshest organic or wild-crafted products available, promoting health and beauty, while helping to preserve our environment; to teach that food is medicine, and that what you put inside your body will absolutely affect both your physical and mental wellbeing; to offer a fun shopping experience featuring handmade items such as organic skin care, ethnic jewelry, scarves, candles, incense, ceramics and other gifts for all ages; and to create an opportunity for customers to meet like-minded people. It’s clear how the Cinema Arts Centre and bee-ORGANIC are natural partners.

Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in-between, with lots of vegetarian and gluten-free options, bee-ORGANIC is a favorite spot among Cinema Arts Centre Members, including many of our Circle of Friends volunteers.

Owner Elena Pchjolkina recently shared with us, “I have personal experience with disease and healing through food and lifestyle changes. Sometimes I think it was meant that way so that I could make my message that much stronger and help others heal themselves. My advice to all, don’t wait! Start now, today. And get your loved ones on board. Eat clean. Enjoy every moment. Think healthy thoughts. Because life is a beautiful thing!"

Thanks to all who attended our presentation of STRONG ISLAND!
On Monday evening, February 19th, Cinema Arts Centre was honored to host Director Yance Ford and his 2018 Oscar-nominated feature documentary, STRONG ISLAND, to a packed house along with media coverage from BBC and Fox 5 News. This free screening was courtesy of Netflix who were also in attendance. CAC’s Cat Kim, who helped organize this event, welcomed the audience with warm opening remarks. We were also excited to debut CAC’s new step-and-repeat, to be used for high-profile guests and special events like the upcoming Academy Awards Night Fundraiser! (Click here for more info about our Fundraiser, including our Red Carpet Contest!)
SEAT REPLACEMENT UPDATE:

During last year's annual campaign we reserved a portion of funds raised for seat replacement. Funds raised through sales of seat plaques have also been reserved for seat replacement. However, the timeline of this project has changed. Originally scheduled for fall, and then winter, we are now waiting for a third party issue to be resolved before we can set a new date for replacing our seats in cinemas one and two. All funds contributed specifically for seat replacement are being held aside for this project, which we are committed to seeing through. We will continue to provide updates as the timeline becomes more clear.

THANK YOU.
The Cinema Arts Centre is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. The mission of the Cinema Arts Centre is to bring the best in cinematic artistry to Long Island, and use the power of film to expand the awareness and consciousness of our community.
Thanks to our February Program Sponsors:
Thanks to Stuart and Ginger Polisner for their ongoing support of our Real-to-Reel and Creativity Series.

When you visit a business that supports the cinema, please let them know how much it means to you.
