AmeriCorps Week 2019 has arrived! This national event is March 10-16 and is an opportunity to celebrate everything AmeriCorps, including all of the AmeriCorps members currently serving and those that have served since the program started in 1994, as well as all of the programs and organizations that make a difference in the lives of American citizens in thousands of locations throughout the country.

As part of the celebration here in Wisconsin, Governor Evers has proclaimed it AmeriCorps Week here in Wisconsin through the proclamation found HERE. The individual AmeriCorps programs in Wisconsin will be celebrating in a variety of ways throughout the state, including completing projects, participating in different events and trainings, and posting pictures to social media.

Throughout the week, the Corporation for National and Community Service has selected the hashtag #MadeInAmeriCorps to use during AmeriCorps Week to show the nation how AmeriCorps has transformed lives for posts by members and programs. The largest national social media event will be the "Day of the A" on Wednesday, March 13, where AmeriCorps members, alumni, and programs will post images wearing the AmeriCorps logo or finding their own creative way to display the A. Serve Wisconsin would like to ask everyone celebrating AmeriCorps Week here in Wisconsin to tag @ServeWisconsin in all of their posts so we can see the scope of the impacts of national service throughout our state.

AmeriCorps Members Receive Trauma Informed Care Training

Over forty AmeriCorps members, program staff, and host site supervisors participated in Trauma Informed Care sessions presented by SaintA in Madison and Marshfield. This training provided information on what neuroscience research has demonstrated regarding the impact of trauma on brain development, including its functioning and how it recovers from  trauma. The concepts presented will help inform the interactions AmeriCorps members have with the individuals they serve, providing insights into shifting perspectives, potential interventions, and building relationships and connections.

National Service Recognition Day -- April 2

Mayors and city leaders, county representatives, state elected officials, tribal leaders and other officials across the country have witnessed how national service has helped to take on their community's toughest challenges. Whether responding to natural disasters, tackling the opioid epidemic, educating students for the 21st century workforce, supporting veterans and military families, completing conservation projects, promoting economic opportunity in our communities, or helping people to live healthier lives, AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers help local leaders make their communities stronger. In Wisconsin alone, 900 different local service sites are being currently impacted by 8,300 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members.

On National Service Recognition Day, which this year is on Tuesday, April 2, thousands of local leaders across the country will honor AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers by participating in recognition events, issuing official proclamations, and taking to social media in a nationwide show of appreciation.  Government officials interested in participating in National Service Recognition Day in any way can register to demonstrate their participation at
