Rev. Raymond E. Rivers, "Rev", went home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2018.

Rev. Rivers was born to the late C. James and Odessa (Richardson) Rivers in Wadsworth, Ohio, on June 29, 1945.   He graduated from Wadsworth High School and served in United States Army.

Rev. Rivers resided in Akron, Ohio, where he was employed at Morton Salt for over 30 years until his retirement, and he volunteered for 25 years at Akron East High School as a football coaching assistance and an adult mentor to students.

He was the assistant pastor at Independent Baptist Church in Smithville, Ohio, pastored by Rev. Wallace Flemings Sr.

Rev. Rivers was preceded in death by parents, C. James and Odessa (Richardson) Rivers; brothers, Linton Buddy (Sue) Rivers and Timothy Rivers.

He is survived by sons, Raymond (Veronica) Rivers II of Chesterfield, Va., Mark (Stephanie) Rivers of Palmdale, Calif., Jonathan (Telia) Rivers of Charleston, S.C.;  daughter, Meyett (Darnell) Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; siblings, Delores Garner, Elizabeth Robinson, James Rivers, Roberta Rivers, Leroy (Brenda) Rivers, Zipporah (Stan) King, Karen Rivers, Charlotte (Stanley) Davis, Judy Sykes and Evangelist Sandra Dunbar;  11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild;  and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Sommerville Funeral Services, 1695 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH 44320.  330-836-2725
