As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Appreciation.  The term is actually a financial one: to rise in value from the root word of price.  This week we celebrated our teachers at both the lower school and upper school with chocolates, smash waffles, lunches, and many sweet cards and comments from our parents and students.

The teacher appreciation committee (TAC) was led by Lisa Cartwright, Michelle Chandler, and Jennifer Dupree.  They always go out of their way to make the events beautiful and rewarding for our teachers who work so hard.

As I was thinking about appreciation, I realized that one week is not enough to adequately value our teachers.  They are like a fine wine or investments, which gain value and richness over the years.  Time with our teachers, their experience in the classroom, their years of service to our families and our school all contribute to their growing value.  Experience for a teacher is an exponential component of their effectiveness in the classroom.

I think of many of our staff members who have served for 5, 10, even 15 years at Christ Covenant and realize they are to be highly valued.  As a school currently in the process of working on a strategic plan, we are monetarily prioritizing these experienced teachers and looking for ways to reward them for their loyalty, expertise, and experience.

If you see our new tuition schedule for next year, in fact, you will see a very small percentage increase which is particularly targeted towards keeping experienced teachers.  We desire to tangibly translate our appreciation with financial rewards.

Finally, appreciation grows whenever we use our words to reinforce qualities we admire in others.  The grass is not greener on the other side, but it is greener where we water it.  The Bible gives us many admonitions to use our words to promote life, appreciation, blessing, healing, love, respect, order, unity...you get the picture.

So not only this week, but always, let our speech be full of grace to increase and appreciate the value of these key people in our community, our teachers.

Blessings,

Robert Lee
